sigma 105 2.8 ex macro

just recently purchased a sigma 105 2.8 ex macro having been told this is a very good macro lens ?? all of my other canon lenses are L series so I decided to give this one a go ,
but it just seems to whir and hunt occasionaly locking focus but most of the time just making noises ,
anyone came across this :bonk:

the camera is a 1D mk111
( had all the updates )
 
Do you have the problem just when using it for macro shots or is it the same when used as a medium telephoto?

i had the same lens and got rid of it because of that, then got the sigma 180 3.5 macro its a lot better and gives a better background :)

it seems to hunt all the time ..
It does my head in :bonk::bang:
 
Hi there i just got the Sigma 70mm macro and it seems fine not as fast to lock on as my Nikon lenses.

I have read in a few cases that manual focus is best for macro lenses which is what i do to be honest.
 
Yup! My Sigma, Nikon fit, hunts a bit too; but I am not too worried or bothered about this since I use it in manual mode.

If it's hunting when used as a medium telephoto there could be something up with the lens. To be honest I've always foind the Sigma QC to suck!
 
Don't think I have ever tried mine in AF. Always use MF for macro. Compared to an L lens it will seem a bit agricultural.
