Hi all,

Just received insurance replacement Sigma 10-20mm and just really need to ensure it's new stock...

Has anyone on here very recently purchased one of these (Canon fit). If so, please can you advise serial number? Mine is 2212442.

Also, there is a little nick about .5mm long almost in the centre of the front element. Have tried rocket blower, followed by Spudz lens cloth with Visible Dust lens clean plus, but makes no difference. Will this make any difference to IQ?

Cheers guys in advance

Don't accept it ! send it back :bonk:
if it's an insurance replacement it should be new and perfect :rules:

Sure, which is what I'll do and will contact the supplier tomorrow.

Need to ensure though that this serial number is one of the more recently manufactured units

Doesn't matter mate, send it back if the glass isn't perfect, regardless of whether it's been recently manufactured.

Totally agree it doesn't matter if it was made yesterday or 10 years ago you pay insurance to get broken\lost items replaced with good ones not broken ones, even if the mark doesn't effect the image quality it will increase the amount of lens flare which would be a right pain on a landscape lens like this.

it's a old ploy, your at home you get your lens it's not right, but you waited for this day and it's only a chip, SEND IT BACK there's a good chap, you would not except it if you where in the shop, and try for a filter for your in-convenience,

Regards Mark.

It won't show on pictures, but personally I'd send it back.

You don't expect glass to have nicks when brand new.

That sounds familar.

I purchased one from the forum a few months back, it also had a little nick which didn't impact the image quality and seemed to be internal. Anyway I was lucky enough I person I got it from purchased it from Jessops. So I took it back and got a new one about a month or so ago. I will post the serial number of this as soon as I get out of work.

But I agree with what others are saying, take it back and ask for a replacement.

mmmm...this is a new experience for me; never before have I had a slight nick on the glass, never mind straight in front of the aperture. In the past I owned a lens that was soft on one side, which also went back under warranty..

It's going back for a replacement. PD, would be grateful if you could post your serial number (just out of curiosity).

Cheers chaps and chapesses

Hello Mark

The serial number from my lens is 2193585.

Don't know if this helps you any, but good luck with the exchange.

Peter

It does, massively. Proves that it's a very recent one.

The 'nick' is barely noticeable. I only noticed it cos I looked for it very hard.

What I'm gonna do is try it out tomorrow and if it's a very sharp copy I'll keep it, if not it'll go back.

The rear element is fine, as is the body, zoom and focus rings are smooth as butter.

Cheers Peter

The replacement lens Sigma sent me was 2205860. It was a sharp copy but I just recently sold it.
