Sigh...I hate cars...

Wow, you haven't lived much have you? Which country do you live in? A 20" Ronal wheel for £300? You are having a laugh....Besides that, how much do you think Japanese parts are? Any experience with those?
Can't find an example of a 20" Ford Ronal rim but found a 19" http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/for...kle_silver_machined_front_f_1892461_c_439.htm It's not going to cost another £80 for a 20" rim. No experience of Japanese parts, but there is no reason a Japanese 17" alloy wheel should be twice the price of another car manufacturers 17" alloy wheel. http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/for...design_alloy_wheel_silver_f_1756294_c_388.htm , other than the fact that Japanese dealers are obviously charging way too much.

Why all this talk of fixing the radiator? It's only moved, it's not leaking, Just leave it, or at worst remount it in it's original position.

Great, so Ford is cheap. Totally irrelevant as the op has got a Toyota. Now find one for a Toyota ;)

In you opinion and I may even agree. However, that doesn't help the OP though does it? Now if you can find that £300 wheel for £200 for sale than it would be useful contribution and help the op.
Get the old one fixed, it'll be a lot cheaper than £200.
Going by his posts, he wants to get rid of it anyway, probably better to find out how much he can get for the car as it is rather than spend £1k on it as well as waste time to get £500 more than if he just sold it.

Modern Toyota wheels are dirt cheap secondhand, usually because they are prone to issues. Celica ones for instance: The T sport ones cracked, and the base model 5 spokes the paint just blistered off. All made by reputable alloy companies, but likely made to a cut price recipe of Toyotas specifcation. Old stuff , (pre 2000) never has issues. My abused 1990 Celica was better underneath than my Dad's 2001 Fully Toyota main dealer looked after model.

Or it could be the manufacturer cuts corners once the contract is secured just to make a bigger profit or make up for the shortfall by undercutting other manufacturers.

I doubt it, given as the quality of the other components is similarly affected as mentioned already, the common link all being that they are destined for Toyota.

Decent 2nd hand tyres with 5mm are 20-30 fitted. Thats around £100 all in. Sometimes you can even find matching pairs.

Tidy it up, cheap generic exhaust in whatever questionable reputation cheap garage like many rundown parts of Birmingham or Glasgow and sell that thing off on ebay. The idea is to do everything as cheap as possible, so most certainly no dealers or high end tidy looking places.

So guys.

I have done lots of research, spoke to a friend who is a mechanic, who's initial impression, like a lot of you was "give me a day or two Ray, I'll look into it and I am sure it won't cost you £2k to fix a bumper and an exhaust". He called around, spoke to a few of his other friends in the trade and came back as I have told him. One mechanic basically said "get rid of it now!" as soon as he realised it is a 08 plate 1.8L Yaris SR. The conclusion he came to is that "get rid of it now".

That was over the weekend/Monday.

And during the past 10 days I have been really keeping an eye out for cars in Autotrader. I actually have had 10 different searches for different cars saved for the past year with alerts so have kept up of what I can get, what price they normally go for. I have been looking for something more comfortable than my Yaris, same if not better performance, and no older than my Yaris with lower mileage (65k).

So I won't get another 08 plate car with 60,000 on the clock, that make no sense to me, even if it's cheaper. That is the idea anyway, I know how sometimes you can find a gem for £5k with 100,000 on the clock and it'll do another 100,000 with no problem…that's not a gamble I want to take, I just like to maximise my odds of a reliable car for longer amount of time for going for a newer and lower mileage car.

Today I have found a Volvo 2011 C30 T5, 16kmiles, 5 Volvo dealership service stamp, 2 owners. Leather, Heated seats, rear parking sensors.

Yup, 16k miles, last service at 15k miles. I have put a deposit down and subject to inspection I think I have my next car lined up.

Sounds very nice. Check the MOT's match with the service book history for the mileage.

Could be worth a call to the dealership that last serviced the car - they may well know it's history and should be able to tell you if any advisories on last service, if there were any, if the service invoices aren't to hand...

Double check everything works as it should, check the exhaust for leaks :D and enjoy your new toy.

Wasn't the T5, the top of the range? Won't be the cheapest to run............. but should be fun.

It's the one with the fastest engine on offer, so yeah...

It's not the cheapest to run and does about 30mpg, but my Yaris does 35mpg.

The T5 is £290 tax, the Yaris is £215 a year to tax.

The T5 is £450 to insure, the Yaris is £350.

I do 8k miles a year so its a few hundred more for a much nicer car.

I've driven an S40 T5, nice car.
You are, of course, buying into the one that will be expensive to fix, have a different exhaust, and other non standard parts...
Maybe not as bad as your Yaris appears to be, but... Have you checked prices for consumables?

I have, it;s not too bad. (Euro car parts)

And most items are available !!! :D

£26 for a brake disc, £18 for a brake pads. That's like £180 for the set of 4.

£50 for 5L of oil 0w30.

It's actually less than I expect.

You've bought a Focus ST in Volvo clothing, mechanically pretty much the same, spares should be in plentiful supply. (y)

Yup! A ST in a nicer dress as they say. Also minus the boy racer image associates with the ST and replaced with a safer old man's car image, which is fine by me as that helps insurance too.

Good ending...

Got £2100 in a trade in for my Yaris, seeing it is worth £2900 on private in auto trader...with a hole in the exhaust and the bumper....I snapped his hands off !

Got this in return, Volvo C30 T5.

Must admit that Volvo C30 is rather smart for a Euro Box
