I've been taking stock photos for a few months now and it doesn't bother me much being in crowds of people looking on [in the high street] anymore. Next step is to talk to a few owners to see if they'll let me photograph inside their shops. I'll need to increase my nerve threshold another notch though. :) How do you get on when photographing in public. Have you a thick skin? Would you walk into a butchers say and ask to photograph them at work?

Not if I wanted shots of a Fishmonger...sorry couldn't resist it:lol:

Took some shots at a local market a couple of years ago - had no problem asking the stallholders for permission. Didn't get one refusal - said I wanted shots for my 'portfolio'.

You could always offer to do them some prints by way of a 'thanks'.

I did a series of pictures of local shops, albeit not action ones but rather more formal and posed: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lewisbush/sets/72157627200363447/

Felt more nervous asking some than others, I had a couple of refusals but all very polite. They did all want to know what they were for, and generally accepted my explanation of building up a portfolio for MA application. They might have been less welcoming if I'd told them I intended to sell them :P
