Shutter Speed (How Fast is Fast Enough?)

Good question, when you know, can you tell me please.

But personally you have to weight each corner, speed the bikes take the corner and weather you want purely the lead bike in focus or trailling bikes too.

Personally that shot was taken last year and suffered greatly from a fence being in the way, i have since found a couple of tricks to help with that, could resized better to, but i normally range anything from 1/60 though to 1/500, rarely do i go above that.

yeah 160th upwards would cover most head-on shots, easily possible to go slower too, especially in long slower corners...

Just out of interest....If you look at the right forearm of the lead rider in that in that shot, its actually just out of focus, even though it looks well within the depth of field.... hes probably just that second opened the throttle hard and 160th wasn't enough to stop it bluring .... its always a compromise....but going for too fast a speed will also freeze the wheels, which doesn't look so effective as blurred ones... you can see that cool effect in that shot you linked too.

Thanks, but yeah its always a balancing act, bth personally i dont mind an arm being oof due to them open the throttle, just adds to teh effect, providing the bikes good and the head and main body is good.

Not at all mate, just an insite to how i think, others dont agree, but thats part of photography.

I do keep quite quiet, mainly due to be faily new, and know nothing other then what i personally do.

Thanks Lads,

Here are a few of mine from a road race I was at last weekend:
