Hi

I was at a family wedding last weekend and I was able to use and practice on my new 60d but at one point I was conscious of the noise that the shutter sound make.

Does the shutter sound on your camera annoys you?
Is there a way to reduce it?
 
You just get used to it,and don't forget its just not the shutter its the mirror going up & down on an DSLR.

A lot of cameras do have a quite mode,some work better than others :)
 
There is a way to reduce it - shoot from live view mode. Because in LV the mirror is already up (which is why you can't see through the viewfinder).

Try a D800!! THWACK! :)

My Mamyia RZ67 sounds like a car door slamming :)


You just get used to it.

Some camera's are really quiet though. All mirror-less cameras obviously, but the Nikon Df is beautifully quiet. Quietest SLR I've heard actually.
 
Yup, the D800 is loud for normal use, in a quiet church it's like you hit the altar with a sledge hammer, the way people look at you for the first few shots :D They get over it, and so do you :)

Really? My RB67 was relatively quiet as it's mirror movement was damped. Relative to my Bronica ETRS which sounds like several car doors slamming at once.

The most interesting sounding shutter I have is a Kodak Retina Reflex III.

Does yours have Silent "S" drive mode? Or get a 1Ds or 1D - at least they sound soooo good :)

The worst I think are Canon Rebels. The squeak-clunk is agonising to hear, particularly if coupled with AF beep and flash in your face.

No damping on mine. Mine's very old though, but it's the same as every other RZ I've heard/used. Never used the ETRS, but used to have a SQ-A, which was equally as noisy.
 
I find my 1D3 loud

In a wooden hide it can really resonate through the structure if I'm leaning on the window frame.
 
You mean Girls on Film, surely.
 
My 1D3 has a loud shutter,but I usually use it in silent shutter mode so no big deal there,(the draw back being you can only use single frame shooting) on the otherhand my 7D is like the proverbial door slamming,it can be an absolute nightmare at times, especially in hides.
