Shutter Release Problem

Just come back from Ireland and whilst taking photos the shutter button would not press and I had F--- flashing. Being very new to this camera and all the jargon I went into a photography shop and was told it means the lens is not fully connected. It was - but until he released it and reconnected it it wouldn't take a picture. What I want to know is this a fault with the camera or the lens? If so, as is it a recent purchase, I will be hotfooting back to Jessops!!:(:(:(

I wouldn't worry unduly, just keep an eye on the problem. It's not at all uncommon for the contacts between the lens and body to need cleaning - it doesn't take much to spoil the connection.

Probably grease or dirt on the contact that got cleared when he took the lens off and replaced it.
