Hi there...

I have searched but cant seam to find the answer on previous posts.. hopefully somebody can advise me...

I have an Olympus E1 circa 2004, I have bought it 2nd hand as a first DSLR. I suspect it will have had plenty of use in the past (looks mint) and i am giving it lots of use (3000 photos this weekend!)

what are the effects to the camera and photo quality once you get over the recommend shutter click number which i seam to remember is around the 150,000 mark?

My friend keeps joking i will wear it out! just wondering if i need to ease off a bit??! (but that would be boring!)

cheers

bob :)

The 'average' shutter life count is useless - there is no indicator of spread or anything else.

You could argue if it is still going strong after 1 million it will never wear out, or that it is so worn it will never take a photo again without breaking.

Bear in mind that 1, 1000, 1999 has the same average as 999, 1000, 1001 and none of the manufacturers give any other statistical value to indicate the variance

cheers for the replies.. :)

also contacted Olympus and they said they dont have a guidance shutter number - great help there!!!

will just keep going till she gives up the ghost... hopefully in a long time!

cheers

bob

haha about another 2 weeks then bob :)
just checked mine I'm at 5451. You nearly took that many this weekend.

How can you see how many it has done using that?

open the app, load a jpg taken with the camera and one of the properties near the bottom of the list is 'Total number of shutter releases for the camera'
thats your number.

1. Switch on
2. Open the card door (you will see a red warning on the screen)
3. press OK and without releasing OK, press MENU
4. release both buttons
5. You should see the screen identify the camera model
6. press the up nav key
7. press down
8. press left
9. press right
10. press the shutter button (nothing should happen)
11. then press the up key

You should see page 1, press nav button to page 2 to see activation count.

cheers steelback... will give it a go and see what happens!!! i dont suppose you found that key sequence by accident! :0

can anybody advise what will happen when you have taken too many photos??

Cheers

bob :)

You get repetitive strain injury in your hands, duff batteries, a worn out camera and an error message on your PC because your hard drive is full.:D

I just had to upgrade my PC because of my endless snappings. The 200gb hard drive finally said enough was enough and the 1gb of ram struggled to open a shot never mind editing it.

Im always getting moaned at because wherever I go I have a camera stuck to my face

Hardly surprising when you have taken 175 shots a day on average.

I'm actually quite bored so have managed to work out that assuming you sleep for 8 hours and have 4 hours doing stuff other than photography you have actually taken a photo every 4 minutes for 8 months.:help:

:naughty: thanks for that , im quite impressed with myself now, I did have a hard drive failure about 4 months ago so I have been trying to recapture my lost photos well that's my excuse and im sticking to it..

Interestingly I have just seen a Cannon 1ds for sale on ffordes with 224,000 shutter activations :gag:

It's a wonder he took a break long enough to type/read this forum.

Or is he reading the forum on the LCD screen on the back of his camera? :D

One factor to bear in mind, is that dust ingress will affect the shutter's lifespan. Most modern shutters are cheaply made by Copal. They seldom fal and Pro cameras have really well made shutters which last much longer.

sadly the opanda method doesnt give me the shutter No. (but does give a mass of other info which is ace!)

and the up, down etc method does work but shows 3500 photos... which cant be true as took that this weekend! but the camera did crash early on so poss reset the system! :(

im hopeing as the E1 was olympus's 'pro' offering it is roust and kust keeps on going! :)

cheers for the help!

bob :)
