Just Found this site, not sure if it's been posted before, but i hadn't seen it:

http://www.olegkikin.com/shutterlife/

I'm not sure how much you can trust it by, but gives you a rough idea of how many pictures actually get taken...

Mods, please move/edit/destroy if you feel the need ;)

I've seen that site before, the only trouble with such databases is that they are based on figures supplied by individuals, so have no real value. If, on the other hand, a similar table could be compiled from the failure rates/warranty claims recorded by the manufacturers then it would have more validity

I think they need a better system. This was taken from the EOS 1d II page.
Average number of actuations after which shutter is still alive: 115,422.3
Average number of actuations after which shutter died: 85,532.5

It makes perfect sense.

The number of persons reporting that their camera shutter still works give their present shutter count. The number is averaged out: ie Average number of actuations after which shutter is still alive: 115,422.3

The number of persons reporting give the shutter count at which their shutter stopped working. The number is averaged out: ie Average number of actuations after which shutter died: 85,532.5
It makes more sense thus:

The mean average shutter count of all cameras reported as having shutter problems was: 85,532.5

The mean average shutter count of all cameras reported as still working is: 115,422.3

how do you see the number of shutter ops on a canon anyway?

If you put into context - how long the shutter will last. I have had F5s from new and they haven't packed up at all. OK I stopped using them when I went digital, but they worked perfectly for several years.

I have a Nikon FE2 which diod professional work as a sole body for over 10 years - it still works like new. I think you can get hung up on shutter life...100,000 actuations is nothing. Then do a calculation based on how much picture taking YOU do, how many frames a day, by how many days a month - x12. Then see how many years it will take before you get to 100,000.

The D3 has been thoroughly tested to 300,000 actuations....that is nearly the rest of my life!
