Shutter Life Concerns

I found a shutter actuation counter online (located here: http://astrojargon.net/40DShutterCount.aspx) and it told me that I've clicked 43 000 times. Apparently, Canon give the camera a lifespan of 100k.. is that generally fairly accurate, or a total overestimation?

Is there some sort of indicator of when its about to go, and are they pricey things to replace?

the number canon give is MTBF mean time before failiure, (an average) some fail sooner some fail later, usually they just go. They are approx £150 - £200 inc fitting.

Sometimes you'll find that shutter life of any camera far exceeds expectations.

also having a mean value is useless without any idea of spread.

a series of 1, 1000, 1999 has the same mean as 999, 1000, 1001

These guides are meaningless, I've seen a 300D die at 20k actuations, but I'll bet there are plenty out there with at least 21k
