Obviously less is best, but what is an acceptable upper limit for shutter count when buying used?

Seen a full frame Sony SLT camera with 100k shutter count. Is that too much?
 
At 100K I would not touch it even if it were dirt cheap. Ask yourself "Why is it for sale", and you have your answer

Looks like the Sony has an expected shutter life of 200,000, if that's correct then it's half way through its 'expected' life but many shutters go way beyond the expected life.
What is the rest of the camera like? What price is being asked? How quickly would you expect to do another 100,000 shots if it did remarkably break down at that exact time?
A camera on good condition and good price could be a great bargain with 100,000 on the clock.

My thoughts exactly. You have to judge it based on circumstance and probability. If you're only going to add another couple of thousand actuations per year, it would be another 50 years before it's even hit it's 'expected' shutter life. Then there is the question of how much a shutter replacement actually costs in relation to value of the camera. Maybe it's a risk where by the camera is worth a small enough amount that if the worst happened it could be binned with little regret, annoying though that would be. Loads of variables to ponder.
 
You have to factor in price, if the camera is still supported for repairs and how long will it likely be supported. The rated durability of the shutter and many other things.

I have a dslr with 100K but its tested to 200K and there are 18 examples on a shutter life database of the same model with between 1 and 2 million and still working so it can last far longer than 200K
