Anyone know how to get the exact number of shutter acuations on a 30d??
 
i'm not sure you can Glen :(

People have tried using the ap used on the 1 series and it doesn't seem to work that well.

others have looked through metadata stuff and found out, I think Marcel might be able to shed more light on it as he was trying it I think on his 30d
 
I did look into it. There is a way to do it with the 1 series, and EXIF Viewer, but said procedure doesn't work with the 30D (Well, it didn't with me anyway). This was about 9 or 10 months ago, so there may be a way to do it by now, I just haven't found one :)
 
Ok I don't know if this works for all cameras, I only found out about it when I needed to know for my D70s and of course I had changed all the names of downloaded images, etc. A friend loaded my last picture up to his flickr.com account and then used flickr's advance image properties to display the shutter actuation info.[I was quite pleased that I hadn't actually given it as much wellie as I thought] Of course I pressume this relies on the info being stored in the exif data and I dont know if this applies to the camera you refer to. :shrug:

If I had to guess I'd say my 20D would be on around 15 to 18k mark. Using that link I come up with 16,483 - so it seems to be about right :)

I just downloaded the first freeware hex edit that google turned up here and opened the last RAW with it.


Used the address 'go to' feature to get the values for addresses 95D and 95E from the RAW file (which was 40 and 63) .

This web site has a hex to decimal convertor which says 4063 in hex is 16483 in decimal.
 
Thats gotta be C**P. There are only 16 bits between 95D and 95E thats a max of 65536 total count.
I base this on the fact that I've apparently taken 8K images.... which is B*ll*X (I've approaching that many saved!) ... unless I've managed to take 65536+8k... equally unlikely unless I dont sleep and/or leave my finger on the shutter all 24/7
 
You could be right :)

I don't pretend to understand it. using the first things that turned up gave me an answer I could believe... doesn't make it right of course!
 
Can't be right as I have the same numbers in several images, also I get 60 thousand actuations more than images I've shot :gag:
 
Just checked an early RAW file where i know the shutter count and it does not work out. Oh well not important anyway.

Not that I need to. Since I had the camera, I havent reset the image counter (Well, except for the first day, after 10 test shots).

And my image numbers form part of my filing system, so looking at my latest shot, I have taken, er..

Since July last year. I think I'm slacking.
 
lol that would be a small number if you, say, owned a 20d since new which is about 2 years....*cough* DF *coough*

my 300d is about to retire from active service with around 11k on the clock..

I never reset my 20d while it was in service, so the last image that came off it was sub 3.5k.

I've managed 5k on my little ixus though which was bought at almost the same time :D
 
The 20D picks up its file numbering from the CF card somehow. I used a card from Jill compact (canon ixus) once and the file numbers jumped several thousands backwards. It was most annoying!
 
Just worked it out... since Nov 2005 I've taken just over 10.8K shots on the 20D. So over 18months I've averaged 600 shots a month or ~20 a day..... :eek: :D

No wonder its beginning to look tatty.
 
Doesn't Opanda (google it) give you the shutter actuations for canon?

It does for Nikon, but Iguess if canon doesn't include the actuation count in the exif in the first place........

My Nikon Has 26,000 actuations. I bought it last April 2nd hand and it was about 18 months old then. Just looked at the exif info and it had just 8k on it when I bought it. But it does get used very heavily for work. Normally 4gigs a day of images....
