It has been an adventurous ride to say the least but today was my last day working as a full time photographer. I have covered many fields but my expertise lay in the world of aviation. It was a rather lucrative field with many hours spent in the air, the airfield and with many pilots. It has always been my passion to fly (I nearly made it with the RAF though I was medically discharged) and having worked for the last year in the aviation business I decided enough was enough and enrolled to obtain my CPL (Commercial Pilots License). $60,000 later I graduated (the course included the 45 hours for you P P L and the 200 hours to obtain you CPL, hence why it cost so much). Instead of taking the pictures I am now flying the plane. It has filled a hole to say the least. Giving up all my leased equipment was a bit tough though! Saying goodbye to all that glass, the D3 (which I didn't really like anyway, but it was handy), the lighting, everything, was, well, sad. At least I have my D200 still :-).

Many thanks to all the folks on here for their critique and support in my earlier days of going digital. I'm headed back down hobby road with my photography now, sure it will be less stressful too!

So, really, chase your dreams and don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it.

Congratulations - I am sure it will turn out to be a very worthwhile investment, and if flying is your passion any price is worth it. Also to put photography back into hobby status after having to make money at it must be a huge bonus!

I couldn't imagine having to give up all my togging stuff, i'd be heart broken.

Hopefully. At the moment I'm within BC flying Dash 8 100's. Neat little thing. Sometimes crossing the Rockies to Alberta. Great views!

It was a little hard,... but it can be bought, one day.

Well done mate, you could always just whack it into autopilot and fire off some shots for us ;-)
 
Make sure your undercarriage is down during final approach, otherwise....





.....well, it could be nasty :(

They teach you how to belly land on a simulator. Its quite fun. Though I couldn't imagine doing it in a real life situation.
