Showing Images In Thread - Where to Host Them?

I see a lot (all?) of the images in threads are linked to with an address including http://farm9.staticflickr.com.

Is this part of Flickr? Something else?

I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

Or can they be hosted anywhere and it's just by chance that all I have seen have been http://farm9.staticflickr.com?

The reference is to Flickr but there are others e.g. Photobucket

Well, it links to them as expected but not the same as those with a farm9.staticflickr address which just show the image with a plain
grey background.

EDIT: Now I have it!

You have to right click on the image and copy its location rather than use the web address in the top bar (if anyone else cares!).

Photobucket is the best one for me. You can effectively mount them anywhere you want and just grab the img code.. Right click, 'copy image address', paste into an image hyperlink on the forum.. Done!

Photo bucket do hammer some of the image quality however.

Best to load to Flickr in the size you want to show then link to the original as it is untouched.

Depends if you have the bandwidth and want to fiddle with hot-link/leach protection for every site you want to link on

picturepush.com for me.
Was webshots, but max resolution limitation put paid to that.
Also started getting cheesed off with the layout which meant scrolling down to grab the link.
