Show us your Nikons

Well here is the FM
DSCF0120.jpg

And this is the F3 that's on hold for Arkady ..shown with a dedicated SB17 flash that's specially made for the F3 cameras

I always thought it strange why they put the flash shoe over the rewind lever on the F3..but it makes sense should you ever wish to use a waist level finder on it...cleaver guys then Nikon boys are

very nice , wheres canons?

Although a Nikon man, I always admired the professional Canons, though I blame them for introducing the hideous moulded plastic push-button monstrosities we're still stuck with, when they outsourced design to Colani in the 80s with the robust but pig ugly T90.

I've always fancied an F-1 as Canon lenses are cheaper to acquire than Nikon but they are very thin on the ground secondhand compared to Nikon's F series. They probably didn't sell as well and/or people are hanging onto them. Canon also changed their lens mounting and went for multi-mode gimmicks like the A-1 which made pro's suspicious of their professional intentions.

Yup the F-1 was a pretty camera, but back then, everyone used Nikon...
I saw more Pentax cameras in the press scrums than Canons tbh...

Nikon's philosophy of lens-integration meant any Nikon lens worked on any Nikon camera ever made...so much easier to buy additional lenses and bodies for different types of job...

Back in the 80s I always used the Pentax LX & MX fantastic cameras..built like Battleships and ultra reliable..The Nikon's at that time was way out of most peoples reach cost wise...
I tried the T90 out for a few years too as it had the best spot metering around at that time and had a fast drive for sports photography...
The Olympus OM 4&3 where good cameras too but pricey and hard to get hold of

just found this...can you imagin the pros of old carrying a couple of thease around there neck all day....

Well mine have been out being used... Joxby's is still having it's cough tended to, kjevans and walsh's have been out and about recently, and gingerjon's has been "out on the streets, man"...

The Nikon professional hegemony had less to do with reliability, and more to do with the ability to scrounge or hire a lens or body for a particular job.
They were reliable but not more so than other marques and by the AF period brands were much of a muchness IMO. One life-long Nikon enthusiast of my aquaintance chopped his in for a Contax after trouble with his magic focus Nikons. By then the game was up for industrial strength SLRs, Pentax reached semi-disposable status in their late film period and they weren't the only one.

its a shame Pentax went down hill they made some really nice cameras ...there Z1p was an awesome camera to use and had possibly the fastest auto focus ever made...

The Pentax LX was a great camera too..... then I saw the light and moved to Nikon with an F3 and the love affair began!

As far as manual focusing camera go the Nikon F3 will allays be the king:)

The K2 was a nice camera, as was the S1a and of course the Spotmatics. The later K1000 ended up being made outside Japan and wasn't off the same quality.

Canons are for old women..so we banned them in the thread LOL :lol::lol:

ah well then, all owners of these expensive Nikons should put a shot up to show that they are not just collectors

I still want an F5 or preferably an F6 :D

The F6 looks like one heck of a camera...but sadly there hard to get and demand high prices secondhand

All on my Flickr pages...dig deep and there's even some older film scans there...if you look hard...

Selling this was a big mistake - I keep checking prices on average three times a week!

F90x is a beauty, I'll never get rid of my N90s (same thing, US name). Still need to find a grip for it though.

Yup - had it when I got the D1x, seemed like a good idea to get the pair. When the D1x went to Germany I just automatically sold the F90 as well. Bloody fool, now I gotta find another!

erm well it's infected with digital shots............................................

Must steal my dads early FM2 (He imported it for himself from Japan on release, used to buy various from abroad for work back in the day.) Must be one of the first in the country and its MINTY, not to mention the various lenses he's got harumph.

have a look on the bay.. you can get F90s really cheap now days...Ford's have loads in at the moment..
Not used one myself but they look great value at the moment

I can see a cameras-I've-regretted-selling thread on the horizon. We could sit in a virtual circle AA style and confess our stupidity and offer moral support.

I agree...if only I could have them all back :bang:

Nice set, love the soh that puts #4 in the same group!

Love the military shots Arkady ...film always appears to show that little more character than digital

All I know is that it's a lot easier now... those shots in Africa had to be stored in an ammo-tin in the chef's food-ISO-container, along with all my unused film...

Sounds like hard work...dont you think film shots make you a better photographer as people tend to take more time composing there shots and stretching there film out....with digital most people just snap away..with no thought to have many shots they have left in the camera and correct and bad shots at home on the PC

I've found exactly that - I take far fewer shots before getting the 'right' one on any particular job than many of my colleagues brought up on digital and moreover, my shots appear better-composed and with better colours and saturation because I shoot on manual and expose 'properly'...
You get a discipline from shooting film that's almost entirely absent in digital photography and it's not something that can be replicated IMO...

To properly 'learn' photography, I still think it's better to start on a manual film-camera...

This is a digital shot - working at the extreme capabilities of a D3 with regards light - note the blown doorway and lack of shadow detail that I could have saved with a film shot...
It still only took me two shots to get it though...
