Show us your Gear

Well I started off last June with a Canon 400D and kit lens which I was very happy with.........then I found this forum and it all went a bit wrong

20080310009_edited-1.jpg

Canon 30D + Grip
Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 EX DG
Sigma 24-70mm 2.8 EX DG Macro
Sigma 17-35mm 2.8-4.0 EX HSM
Sigma 135-400mm 4.5-5.6 APO DG
Canon 50mm 1.8
Sigma 1.4x EX DG
Sigma EF 500 DG Super
Slik Master Classic D3 Tripod
Slik Sprint Pro Tripod
Jessops Monopod
Cokin P Filters
Wireless Remote

Theres also a Tamrac Cyberpack 9 and a Crumpler Bens Pizza LTD to carry it all in

As and when funds allow that little lot will grow to the tune of a Sigma 120-300mm 2.8 and a Sigma 105mm or 150mm macro......................oh and the small matter of a Canon 1D MKII N:love:

I can't be bothered to get it all out and take another photo so could you all just imagine another 30D+grip and a Sigma 105 macro in with that lot..ta:thumbs:

Only just got my DSLR not done a pic of it yet.

My Gear so far
Canon EOS 50D
Canon 580EX II Speedlite
Canon 70-200mm f/4 L USM
Canon 50mm f/1.4 USM
Sandisk Extreme III 8GB CF Card
Calumet 67mm SMC UV Filter (More for protection on my 70-200)
Hama Star 61 Tripod (Until I can afford a Manfrotto)

I hate this thread.
Why can't I be as rich as some of you.....

lol!!!

You're probably a lot richer - you just haven't spent all your money on camera gear like the rest of us...;)

Filters, stepping rings etc. 2 Olympus OM-10's with 2 x 28mm f/2.8. 50mm f/2.8 and 75-260mm f/4.5 lenses. Manfrotto 679 monopod and 190XPROB tripod. Nikon 1.4 TC
70-200
200-400
600/4

Missing are my D3 and 28-70 (no other way of taking the shot lol) and all my odds and sods. The 600/4 has a two stage hood so you don't have to have it as long as this and I rarely do, but I thought for the full effect it would be rude not too... ;)
Excuse the backdrop, it's an old sheet thrown over my tv :D

why are there so few 5D's in this thread? (EDIT: Full Frame Sensor's in this thread?)

It seems like theres a lot of 1.6 crops, with super super sweet glass. None of you get sick of the crop factor?

Sick of it? I prefer the crop factor :)

I'm guessing a lot of people that need telephoto reach do too.

Now then Richard... When are you next goign out and leaving that 600/4 at home :suspect: I need to pay a visit, my D3 is telling me too

Its just an auto-crop on every photo though!? I would rather shoot fullframe and adjust the crop in Photoshop as thats effectively what a 1.6x frame is doing no? (disregarding pixel counts in this case)

I dont think "reach" is a very correct term in this sense.

anyway I guess this discussion is for another thread.... Ive never even shot fullframe so Im no expert but its def a move Im looking forward to making.

I feel both poor and feeble. Can't post a pick yet but you guys knock spots off my kit.
*sob*

Apologies for the poor picture. It was a bit of a rush job during lunch, and I used the Z2 to take this. I found this surprisingly hard to use, given it's a P&S...

What camera bag that mate?

What camera bag that mate?

Sorry my inbox was full mate.....it's a Lowepro Mini Trekker AW

No longer had it, well for a good 6 months..

IMO, it was ok, pretty comfortable and kept everything nice and together. There are more padded bags about, like from the Kata range..

IIRC, paid about £60 for it from Warehouse Express and did me for about 10 months but buying more stuff meant it became too small pretty quickly..

I'd definately future proof yourself a little; don't go for a bag that's twice as big as you need at the moment, but I'd say about 1 and a half times the capacity, so if you do get more bits, the bag'll last you a little longer...

Hope this helps

Sorry about the quality, were taken with a point and shoot

do you recommend it?

i was looking at getting one

I no longer have one, but I did like it...not the most padded of bags but was reasonably comfortable and IMO, very good value for money and pretty rugged...If you want the most confidence that your stuff is well padded, then I'd personally go for either Kata or Tamrac..

As stated above, I'd definately evaluate what stuff you have and what you may buy in the forthcoming months and buy a bag about 1 and a half times bigger than you need right now....

Hope this helps..some others may come along and give you alternatives for you to consider, to help as well....

What bag do you have now mate?? Care to show us your latest bag with the gear in it

I don't have any piccys of the my Kata bags with gear in...more than happy to take some over the weekend if it helps in your choice etc.

Erm...I have two Kata bags....the R-103

http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product/default.aspx?sku=1008673

and the HB-205

http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product/default.aspx?sku=1013223

Tend to use the R-103 if I want to take my laptop out, also accomodates small lenses like wide angles, so this is my landscape bag and hb-205 is big enough to carry the large 300mm prime with 40D and 1.4x and the 70-200mm plus other gubbins, so tend to take this when wildlifing.

Will also be getting the Storm im2720 with dividers

http://www.samcases.co.uk/storm-cases/im2720.htm

Will be using this for either local wildlife shoots, or those where I have to travel by bus/coach and can simply wheel it around.

For the intermediate distances ie. say 5 miles away to just outside Norwich, I will be using the Kata bags (whichever togging I'm doing that day), as will be cycling to those places...

It be cool to be able to see you kit inside it as the picture on Warehouse does not do justic. How soon you think you can do it as I need to get a new bag as soon as i can really but cant decide what

I'll really try and do something tomorrow..

In the meantime, Kata's website is www.katabags.com. May be some better piccys etc. on there..

Sorry Rookies, didn't get an opportunity today to take shots with my gear in it...

This video here will give you a little idea on what the R-103 takes:

and for pictures (just click on the thumbnails)

http://www.cambags.com/canon/300d_10_20d/backpacks/kata_r-103_desc.htm

and the HB-205

Hope this helps..

Hi,

Do you really swear by this bag? How much did you pay for yours? Which I could view it somewhere before buying as it a expensive bag...

What kit can you get in your biggest Kata?

Hi,

What kit can you get in your biggest Kata?

Rooks, I swear by both the Katas. They really exude quality and functionality!

I paid £129.99 for the R-103 at Warehouse Express and £150.00 (usually £170.00) for the HB-205, at a retailer on Ebay, who accepted a "Best Offer". See Aspen of Hereford on there....

Erm Hope Valley....is that somewhere in Derbyshire? If so, I don't think Jessops stock Kata, try an independent shop in Derby, alternatively, go onto www.katabags.com and they may have a list of dealers in the UK...

In the HB-205, I can get my 40D with BG-E2N grip, 300mm f2.8L IS with 1.4x, 70-200 f2.8L IS (with lens hoods reversed), rocket blower, Spudz, 2 spare camera batteries, the supplied rain covers, two netted bags for miscellaneous stuff, compact flash cards. On the two small outer pockets, I put my shutter release cable and cables, and on the larger zipped outside compartment, I have my Wimberley Sidekick plus spare plates in a Lens Coat forest green camo neoprene pouch plus a few other bits!

Hope this helps! :)

Heres mine, list below, excuse the crappy phone picture:bang::lol:
