Show us your Editing Computer/Darkroom

You're a gamer Pookey? never would have guessed! Here too ;)

Not much point me taking a pic of my laptop really is there? It's in different places daily, and that's my workstation - wherever I decide I want to use it. I would like to have a decent pc again, since I have a new desk up in the room. But I tend to hide away when I have a static station, the laptop lets me do what I like, and still move about. It's an Acer 17" jobby with all the bells and whistles. Intel i7 Core, with an Nvidia chip on top of the standard Intel 4000, 8GB RAm [due to be increased] and a 1TB HDD. It's all I need really. I have LR4 and CS6 installed on it.

I also have an ipad mini - which doesn't do anything photography related, I just like to play silly games on it on the side :D

Go to apple.com and look at the 27inch imacs... Then imagine a wacom tablet beside the keyboard... That's mine....

If you were too lazy to upload a shot of your set up, what are the chances of us searching those just to imagine? :P

On the point of sizes though, how large do people actually need, when you're sat right up in front of it? I mean, I have a 40" tv, which is grand for viewing from a distance. But I wouldn't fancy watching a movie on it,let alone edit a picture, sat right up in front of it. How big is too big for up close editing? I find 17" more than sufficient.

I make music with my imac too and that's where I really appreciate the screen size. For photography I could make do with a much smaller screen. I would never want or need two screens for photo editing.

Aye, same here. I just think when you're up that close, the bigger the screen, the more eye wandering you're going to have to do. 2 screens might have it's uses, but I don't see a need personally. I'm sure anyone who has them set up would say they couldn't go back to one ... but personally, one, decent sized, is enough :)

It's not size, it's resolution. I agree, a 40"TV will be awful. It may be 40" but it's only 1920x1080 resolution, so the pixels will look like golf balls up close :) I have a 30" main screen, and even sat less than 1 metre from it I can't see pixels because it's 2560x1600.

So a big monitor is not about making things bigger, it's about keeping them the same size, but having far more space to work with. All my icons, tool bars, text etc, is probably the same size as on your small screen... I just have more space.

a bit late to this party but here's where I edit - ok mainly built for sound *which is how I earn my crust), but the eagle eyed will spot my huey pro!

Wish I could map my faders to Nik software's sliders.....

cheers

Currently have to sit on my living room floor, with a shuttle hooked up to the main TV.
Not ideal, but I have no other option at the moment.

When I have a house, I will go nuts...
