We're just letting him know that his presence adds something to the forum.

Many thanks everyone. I hope to be able to get some photographic sessions this summer.

Insert roll of film into camera, take photo, wind on, all ready for next photo, repeat process whenever you want to for up to 36 times before rewinding and unloading the film... No, I can't imagine how that caught on instead of all the faffing about you LF lot have to do! ;)

It would be a dull world if we all liked the same things though, so I wish you all the best, may all your film holders always contain film (the right way round) and may none of your darkslides ever slip. (y)
Johnson's of Hendon Jumbo Printer, from memory. If this doesn't help, I can easily look it up and price it with the official name.
Hello Richard, nice to see you back.

:plusone: likewise, welcome back Richard.

Ooh, Nige - I like that! All converging lines and textures, and that nice post on the left with the three markers on it. Very good.

Is it my imagination, or does it have rather a lot of grain for 6x6 400 ISO, is there a story there?

Thanks Paul. Glad you like it - it's perhaps my favourite image made during the year so far.

Not sure about the grain. Possibly down to my development, although I've had HP5+ with much finer grain in the past, the three rolls of 120 shot at 400asa all exhibit similar amounts so I'm not sure what to story is if that's the case. It doesn't look like it's been enhanced notably during any post-processing either. I don't mind it though. :)

No, I don't mind it either. I was just wondering if there is anything I should learn from what we are seeing. How long has your DD-X been on the go?

I think this frame might have been from the roll that used the last bit of developer from one bottle, and some from a new bottle. The DD-X wasn't old though, and the next roll - developed entirely from the new bottle - doesn't have any real notable difference in grain.

HP5+ @ 1600 ISO, DD-X

and a shaky hand??:wideyed:

That does things wierd with my head!:wacky:

The effect is a bit like that purpose movement stylish thing that some do but much less severe .....Still sends my head wacky though:wacky:

It's different, I'll give you that and there is something there that intrigues me although I'm not sure that i could live with it as a print.

I like to sometimes put purpose blurry / OOF bits in a LF composure but never without some part of it sharp/ focused. It's probably that part which is missing in your idea that scrambles my grey matter :help:

No, quite a steady hand. It's a reflection. Sorry to mess with your head!

Well I wouldn't have guessed.....At least now that pea in my head realises what it's looking at (y)

Horizon 202 35mm panoramic camera, and HP5+

Bridge over the New Burn

I like the cut of its jib, both the camera and the picture.
The only thing that winds me up is the distortion inherent in swing cameras.
Just looking at this one from a distortion perspective only, I could certainly live with that as it is.
It looks like you centered it on the bottom handrail of the bridge, whilst the bridge platform has a slight bow and the top handrail a little more, generally there is little else in the frame that jumps wonky.
Knowing you have this additional factor to consider on top of the usual, I don't see an incidental framing here, it looks really well thought out..:)

I used a tripod with this shot which makes it much easier to use the spirit level which you can see in the viewfinder. The spirit level is very sensitive so hand-held shots are quite difficult to steady.

If the distortion becomes too much then seeing as you’re using a tripod anyway, stick the intrepid on it , redress whatever needs redressing and use a cut darkslide to take pano style shots , so on 5x4 that would be 5x2 inch frames.

A cut darkslide would be useful and have many advantages in terms of distortion control - but the angle of view of the Horizon, due to the swing mechanism, is much wider than my widest large format lens so the results would not be the same.

what better reason could you ask for to treat yourself to a wider LF lens?:naughty: ......... I’m not trying to contaminate you with my GAS infection, honestly I’m not:whistle::LOL::LOL:

I’ve just checked to see if I still have a spare dark slide ... it looks like I chucked it a few weeks ago because I couldn’t think of a use for it ... shame !

i had a metal 10x8 slide laser cut here in France but obtained a plastic 5x7 ( well actually 13x18cm) cut slide from Steve Lloyd @stevelmx5
I reckon he would gladly make up a 5x4 version for you

The Isolette seems to be working! Happy with the first batch of negs. I devved in Rodinal 1+100 for an hour, and there's some slights banding from this, but the negatives are good enough that I'll do a more standard dev next time - exposure and so on seems good. I also found one image where sharpness was poor - I think that's where the film was wound on and, despite trying to be careful, I guess I let the bellows suck the film off the backplate slightly. Overall though, I'm happy - it's a sharp lens (but clearly not as sharp as some of the more modern lenses I've been used to in MF!)
