This is a few from my second spool ever using my Canon AE-1 the first was a complete and utter disaster in more ways than one! I was really quite pleased with the photographs from this one but I am sure you will give me some pointers. Have to start thinking about composition now instead of pointing and shooting, my priority to begin with was to get used to how the AE-1 worked.

Camera AE-1
Lens Canon FD 28mm 1:2.8
Agfa 200 Vista Plus

Just as a quick reply whilst Asha is in Liverpool. This is where he should be,yes, behind bars.:LOL:

You can also see that the F5 is very confusing for him. :)

Aha caught you!......i dont leave for Liverpool til tomorrow !

I might just pay you a visit on route!!!!! :D

That's possible your best portrait of 2014 Richard......shame thé subject matter falls short of ideal:D

F5, Hassy, 5x4 or Box Brownie.....they all confuse the hell out of me:D

^^^^^^^^

I liked the graph tattoo on your head, looks a lot better on film than in real life. :)

A very nice Spanish door.

^^^ this^^^ is why i like portra for architecture .....thé colours are simple fab!

It also helps when everyone paints their house a lovely pastel colour :D

Just for comparison, here's a raw scan of the Portra without Lightroom adjustments, but after colour balancing with ColorPerfect. I applied +40 contrast and +25 saturation and sharpened for screen to the ones above. It was a very dull, drizzly day when I took this shot, which you can see in the original. I think the raw Portra captured the light very accurately, but the adjustments made the sun come out...more accurate for Italy in August!

I quite like mine too even though it doesn't have any electronic gubbins on it :)

There is something weird going on with the trains perspective in that second those people look massive! Nice shots Andy.

No, nothing strange, they are actually the Eskdale Giants, a race of unnaturally large farming types. The train is normal size. :D

Or oop north as I like to call it. :D

Oh, I really like that ^^^^

^^^^^^^^

A brilliant portrait street work, you are getting better and better.

That's beautiful, would love to be able to take shots like that!

Dave, I really like those. Lovely colours. That Velvia is really working for you, and it looks like you're not having too many problems scanning it either! (A few possible sharpening artefacts in number 3, and the shading in the far part of the valley is a bit odd, but overall these have come out brilliantly.)

^^^ Result. Isn't amazing how sometimes just getting an image from something old and originally cheap is more satisfying than from high end expensive kit.

Am I right in thinking this is Inverness?

I have so enjoyed getting these from something so old and cheap as you put it! :) It has been very satisfying and fun into the bargain. Got some strange looks from the younger people that saw me using it and some some smiles from the older generation who obviously knew what it was and had brought back memories.

Yes Andy it is Inverness.

Those are wonderful, Carol. They almost look as if they were taken in 1963! What was the film? (The lens, unsurprisingly, appears more than a little soft!)

Hi Chris the film was Agfa 200 not the best choice but did not want to waste anything else if they did not turn out. The weather was overcast and quite dull hence why some are on the dark side. The lens I think might need cleaned, I cleaned the camera inside and out and the outer lens but did not touch the inner part as I will have to dismantle to get to it. Not sure how clear the photographs should be with this camera but I suppose being 51 years old it's doing not too bad.

Other problem might be tension and pressure. The camera is designed to have a thicker film effectively the film plus the backing paper so it might be sitting in very slightly the wrong place. Though I'm not sure how much of a difference that would realistically make. When I put some vista through the RB all the shots very very slightly soft which I think was caused by that.
