Another shot that's not King's Lynn ;)

Again the Retina 1a with Fijicolor C200, but this time processed in Lightroom for b&w.

 
First roll taken with my Bronica, first time I've developed a film, and first post on the forum :wave:


(Bronica SQ-A, PS-80mm, Ilford HP5+, Ilfosol 3, Epson 4490 scanner)

Not sure why I'm getting lighter streaks down the church tower in the last one, but suspect they're from the squeegee or the scanner.

Beneath the clock face in the last photo, there are streaks that run parallel to the sides of the film roll. :(
You might have to click to make the image bigger before you can see them.


Thorton: the negatives aren't cropped, but the orientation was mainly because it was the first time I'd used the camera, so as well as checking for light leaks and vignetting from a hood, I was mostly just lining things up with the edges of the viewfinder to check how much more or less I'd get on the negative. The top of the church was lined up with the corner of the view screen, and I can see how much extra I got :)
Also with the top one I had no more room to walk backwards.

if it's 1 degree out, its a mistake, if it's 30 - 45 degrees it's a stylistic statement.;)


Or an indication that you need to invest more money in your tripod/ball-head :lol:
 
I was dossin' on the sofa and looking at these on the iPad where there's something very odd going on with them when viewed at the forum smaller size option - they look like grey half tone images, but look OK when using the larger image option.

I just came to check them on the Mac and they look fine. :thinking:

Nice punchy shots - I personally don't think you need the gimmick of the weird crops - the shots are fine without them.

They do look a little like squeegee marks - faint black lines on the print (so tiny micro-scratches on the negative showing white):thinking:

CT: I wonder if the iPad doesn't like png files with transparency? I.E. used to have problems with them.

A couple more from the same roll. I'm not especially happy with them, I found myself wishing I had a wider angle lens so I could fit more in each frame.

Last one from the same roll of HP5+. This one has been a bit cropped.
There was a small electrical fire at the University a few nights ago. :police:
At this point I was really worried, because it was right next to the server room where all my work is saved. Fortunately not much damage was done, and I've since done an off-site backup.

I see them now but they are so faint its difficult to attempt an explanation, I gave up on the squeegee after one roll, I find its as easy to run a finger down the neg, having said that my squeegee scratches were nothing like as subtle as those, so I'm guessing it isn't a scratch..

I can see them running down the length of the negatives, they are easier to see than in the scans. I guess it must be the squeegee, rather than something inside the camera, because they are not completely straight and parallel with the film.
I think I will use my fingers from now on, thanks for the tip! :thumbs:

apologies, crop was the wrong word really :P i knew they werent cropped because of the border cause by the negative when scanning, a better word would have been orientation lol, which i can understand why you did it if it was for test shots and stuff :thumbs:

Just thought I'd add some tester shots from my new Contax G1 over the weekend :) only some Kodacolour, can't wait to get some tastier film in it :D I can't believe the sharpness of this lens, i'm hoping for better things with better film :)

Get some Ektar in that G1 if you want colour. It will knock your socks off!
 
Duly noted! I've got some velvia 100f sitting waiting at the moment after I've finished the current kodacolor that's in there, ill be sure to order up some ektra too, at least its c41 so I can get it developed and scanned easily! I can't say I've used it before but from what I'm seeing it might be a tough one to beat for me :D
 
Some of mine from a roll of Adox CHS 50 on the RB67, not too happy with how they came out, got what i think are air bubbles on the film during dev so had some nice big blotchy patches of uneven development on nearly every image.

I have just finished a roll of 120 in an abandoned looney bin,
Need to get back to college on monday to develop and scan in,
i'll also scan some more from this location and post them up as soon as possible!
Black and white does work so well in this setting!

Still to try my 160 portra, never shot it before but really looking forward to it.

i couldnt get the boat completely sharp as it was very windy and i needed a 2s exposure. i can boost the exposure in lightroom because it looks a little dark on this screen but fine on my laptop :( thanks for taking the time justin :)
 
To prove that not all my film photography happened 20 years ago, this isn't from the archives... I've finally got round to some scanning of new stuff :)

OK, after trying the B&W film for the first time a couple of weeks ago I decided to give some colour film a go. Nothing special just cheapo colour plus 200. Again manually focused but this time with the 85mm.

This film had some sort of scratch or groove all the way though it!!! You can see it in the images which im not happy about. Normally imperfections add a touch of character to film shots but this is just plain distracting. Plus this film seems to be grainier than the 400 B&W film?? I do like the disinctive colours though.. ; )

What do you think?

it looks like it could be a scanner problem as it is at exactly the same height through the film, it may be a scratch from the film advance but i think a scratch would be a lot darker as it has cut through the emulsion and would be more random in shape

The reason for the grain is because of the film - Colour Plus 200 is a very old Kodacolor emulsion from the 80's which is now being sold as a cheap film, supposedly from frozen stock that Kodak had leftover. Film technology has moved on greatly since then and grain is much reduced across all film speeds compared to then, especially with Portra.

The line could be due to a piece of grit or something being embedded in the foam lining on the exit of the film cassette so it creates a scratch as all the film moves out/in or from some dirt in the film compartment, blow out the compartment with something to reduce the possibility of this. Where did you get the processing done? In poorly maintained processing lines dirt etc can cause problems with scratching etc although its unlikely to be in one continuous line like that.

Seem good though.
