Show us yer film shots then!

looop,

Those two photographs are high impact shots, I love the way you have captured the near dusk or dawn atmoshere and the long exposure effect on the river in spot on for me.
Great to see.

These are beautiful. Are this as shot?

Thanks, I was pleased when the transparency's came back from the developers.

They are pretty much as they are off the scanner, just some light dust removal and a tiny boost of the brightness.

A couple of 5x4 shots on Kodak E100vs

These are great, I could look at number two for hours. The problem I have with number one is that I keep wanting to scroll right to see the rest of the boat!:bang:

A much larger one is here, I love looking in through all the windows and keep finding new things.

Nice one Looop. Love the detail.

Trully I feel like I am in a shooting funk. It seems to me that everything I have shot of late is junk. Am I the only one who feels this way. Any one else feel like they lost their mojo?

Anyway, from my last roll...I also missed the focus. I always use zone focusing and I miss set the lens..''sigh''

The bus stop is a lovely shot, your photobucket also has 4 v.nice pics. You are going to miss focus sometimes whether you zone or AF, it happens.

I think we all feel like that sometimes. I find that setting myself a challenge of something completely different to my norm can help, something difficult that makes me have to think and work hard to achieve. Might be worth a try mate.

I think the 1st image would have been unbelievable if you'd nailed the focus. That face has seen a lifetime of pain.

Does anyone know the answer to this, if you quote an image in a post is the data for that image downloaded twice when the page is loaded (in the original post and in the quoted one)? Is so can we stop putting the images in the quoted posts please because I'm finding the pages are taking forever to load on my connection. Surely it's enough to quote the text from the original post to let the OP know you're aiming your comments at them:shrug:

I agree Kev.
Also agree everyone becomes jaded with looking through a viewfinder sometimes. jgredline is doing great work documenting the Hispanic community in that part of town and one day it'll make an invaluable record of a time and a place - as well as being fine photographs.

Place and people change without us noticing and it's worth remembering that every time we pick up a camera.

I agree Kev. Out of 3238 posts I think half must be repeats (just like the BBC). I generally just mention the image and the taker and leave my message, don't really see the need for putting the image in as well.

Your browser should normally download one copy of the image into its cache and use the one in the cache wherever the URL is re-used.

Just for the sake of scrolling, though, I generally don't quote an image unless I've a specific point to make and it's slipped off to another page.

I think Kev, it is partly down to the size of this thread overall - it's probably the only thread on TP that hasn't been split once it hits 2000 replys, and it's giving the server hamsters a hernia every time it gets accessed. It may well be that while our browsers can cope with cacheing copys of the images, the server still has to spit out (links to) 2-3-many copys of the image, which would slow down perceived opening speed.

Possibly, perhaps it's time we started a part two and from there we make a conscious effort not to include photos in quotes if everyone is in agreement.

If we could get this thread "stickied" it'd be good, if that happens

I reckon it may be the time though... before it's forced by some hamster-killing incident

sometimes it's nice to see the image quoted, that the text is about, but I hate when ,say, 10 images are quoted - just to comment on one !

as for splitting the thread ... I personaly dont have any speed issues, but if some are, and it is spoiling their 'user experience' then splitting it is all good .

I agree, that it would be nice to pin any severed parts though, before they go down and down and get lost forever.

I have just caught up with this thread, and it took a whole weekend solid (sad , I know) to view from start to end ! It was most enjoyable to do so though ! some great images here

As TP doesn't host the images, then the page load time largely down to the

a) speed of the image host servers (Flickr, pbase, etc.)

b) speed of your connection

c) speed of your computer

All of the above are governed by many sub-factors, none of them to do with talkphotography.co.uk. The TP servers only provide the HTML code for the page and any graphics associated with the forum itself, like the logo at the top of the page and smileys.

There might be an impact on the retrieval time from the database behind the forum associated with the number of posts on a thread (I'd hope the guys that wrote the forum software were a little smarter than that) but, as far as I can see, this thread loads as fast as any other here.

Fair enough Rob, I'm talking out my Harris - never professed to be a web-savvy coder - COBOL was more my era  In fairness, I don't have any problems with speed of loading myself, but there are some people who are regularly complaining that this thread IS slow to load, and there does seem to be a general effort by "da management" to split threads when they reach 2000 or so views, so there must be SOME issue somewhere.

- COBOL was more my era

Better than me, Mark. The only one I ever learnt; and have a vague recollection of, is Fortran. The version where the compiler ( wasn't that the name) couldn't identify even the syntax error, but managed to tell which line had the error. I was later told of a new-fangled advancement called Advanced Fortran or somesuch; but by then I was too far gone to care.
The 'do-loop' was a splendid idea though...:lol::lol:

Nice one Rob.

Incidentally, I was wondering what happened to Grant, the guy who started this thread.

Thank you very much. I have had many a missed focus images thats for sure. It always seems to happen on images I would have really liked though. ''sigh''

I hear you and I have been thinking about this as well. I have been thinking of sunsets or sunrises. I know that for many, these are easy, but for me, they are not so much. It would be a good reason to dust off my 645. Perhaps some old land marks, though we do not have many good ones around my parts. Thanks for affirming this for me. :)

Good idea. For me its street stuff funnily enough, although now I have my Bessa R3a I'm getting into a bit more as its such an unobtrusive little camera.

I am one of the guilty ones here. In my defense though, I pick out the one or a couple that I really like. To be honest, unless most folks really have a problem with this, I would like to continue to do this. I love looking at wonderful pictures and have no problem looking at them twice. Maybe I am fortunate, but even with my slow work connection, I do not see it making much difference.

Thank you very much for the kind words and encouragement. It is time for me to leave that part of town I am thinking of Beverly hills next as I have had a few request for that side of town :)

Gosh, it would be a real shame to split what I feel the best thread here at TP. Is there not an option in the user control panel to shrink down the number of posts per page?

As far as a Sticky, this should be a sticky no matter what the decision. :)

Col - those are very nice, they ooze warmth from every halide!
