Experimenting with B&W conversions, struggling with getting the shrpening just right and failing. I need to factor in the effect that Flickr adds.

Shot with Nikon FE, Vista 200 and the excellent Nikkor 105f2.5 I bought from Freecom2:):):)

Another united colours of Vista, low res Asda Scan, 28mm Tamron on my Nikon F3HP, polariser and autumn sunshine:lol:
 
Had another go with the box camera, this time something a little slower than a toddler. They actually came out pretty good considering.

So the 6x9 negatives are brilliant, keep thinking I'd like a camera with an actual lens rather than the bottom of a jam jar that will do the big negatives so I can use it for slides.

Shot on Shanghai GP3 with a Hawkeye No 2 Model B, stand developed in Rodinal for 1 hour (ish) at 1+100 (ish)

I really like this Ed, great tones and depth. But when I look at the large image on Flickr there looks to be some sort of 'fringing' on the petals of the flower, is it something you've noticed?

Yes Nick, I am am aware of the fringing, I suspect it is due to a combination of using an Imagon (Soft Focus) lens and having used Nik SIlver Efex Pro 2.
 
Nikon F90X-Sigma 24mm super wide and Sensia slide scanned at home on Epson 2580. I hope you like.

a few from my "chemicals test" roll of HP5+ - not my favourite film, by a long, long way, and I'm not over enamoured by the eventual results, though the important thing is that the chemicals are fine, so I just need to get another few hours free now to process the last roll of 120 from Helga.

Not sure why you dislike HP5+ so much, you get bloody good results from it!

Cheers - not my usual stuff - I normally go out of my way to ensure that theres nobody within 50 yards of my shots. I'd have liked to have kept them a little more central in the window, but short of carrying a stepladder with me, just couldn't get the angle... :lol:

Nope - it's some other "wooden b****r" :lol: - it's actually a chainsaw sculpture of Charles Waterton, the guy who built up the Walton Hall Estate - apparently, the sculpture is placed at Charles's favourite view, looking back towards the Hall across the rolling countryside.

I dunno - I just don't particularly like the overall look - I've always preferred a smoother B&W film like Acros 100 tbh, In all honesty, I far prefer to use FP4+ pushed a couple of stops rather than HP5+. Didn't help that my perceptol was looking a little "brown" so I went for some fresh Ilfosol 3, just to try and be sure that I got "something".

Cheers Andy - managed to get 4 shots that I was reasonably happy with out of what was to all intents and purposes a "test reel" (3 in here, and one in the challenge #20 thread!) plus another one that would have been a cracker, but when loading the spool I kinked the film and put a nasty "half moon" into the frame - it was no real big deal though, bearing in mind I'd shot the same image maybe a dozen times already, on films/cameras various... as I said - a test reel ;)

You are getting good results, nice sharp shots with what appears to be good natural colour,I really like the convertion and the way you have made the main subject just pop from the frame. I also like the results from my Nikon L35AF and Vivitar 35EE with both colour and B&W
 
Thanks Rich, yes I wanted to isolate her from the rest of the shot as she had such a lovely expression so I just added a little gaussian blur to the rest of the image.
 
Excellent set of images Andy, all are good. I particularly like the last one though, very striking street monochrome, pp is just right in my view.

My immediate thought when i saw the image was ..."how did he do that" .....a very nice effect ..thanks for sharing.

They are a very nice set Andy, a wicked set of doors on the 3rd shot......some sort of old warehouse building?? :shrug:

Tbh, my inital reaction to the first one was of it being a lava flow somewhere until I realised you went to Dorset!! lol

The light rays in the second shot are awesome....curious what caused them ....dying sun??, light pollution,spotlighting??,..........spill the beans!!

Slow shutter speed and some fast moving clouds would be my guess.

The light beams are due to relatively slow moving clouds and a 1 min 30 sec exposure time :thumbs:

My scanner sucks at 35mm hence the first 3 are bad quality, also, these are linked from facebook which makes them even worse. They look good in person I swear
 
Apart from the bad scan I really like the set.

1 just appeals to me and I can't put my finger on why, there's an illusion of pattern but actually it's just slightly haphazard
2 has that wonderful abstract feel to it and great tones and enjoyable geoemtry
3 is interesting but the weakest for me personally (clever but just not my cup of tea)
4 its always nice to see a vertical orientation landscape when it works and the contrast between the artificial protectors for the young saplings and the landscape is lovely. They look like alien plastic flowers

Really like both of these shots, the first has an abstract feel to it, very strong colour and I like the composition. The land and sea fade into the sky, works for me.

The second shot has a very futuristic feel, again I like the composition and the slow shutter sky. It all adds to the impact of the image, indeed the tower block in the background gives the whole scene an other worldly feel.

Very nice 6x7 work!

Just wish i had given the first one about a half of a stop more exposure to make the scanning easier without destroying the shadow or highlight detail as my scanner has struggled a bit with this.

With all due respect to Ed, could you elaborate?

Bear in mind it's a flatbed scan (quality loss), it was probably lossy compressed (quality loss) to upload to the web, it's on flickr (quality loss).

EDIT: additionally, because it's been downsized slightly by vBulletin - almost certainly some quality loss there as well.
