Hey guys. I follow another forum and there is a thread about people showing off there posh watches and i thought people on here would be likely to have some nice watches. The reason I'm keen is I'm looking for ideas on what to buy. Due to some scumbags i am coming into a bit of a jewellery voucher. (they broke into my dads house and stole some of my mums jewellery that he was holding for me since she died when i was 2) The long and short of it is they are giving me jewelery voucher for ernest jones jewellers and i would really like to get a watch as a new reminder. I love the mechanical ones where u can see moving parts. Would you guys have any suggestions on ones that I'm missing. It has to be from this site btw www.earnestjones.co.uk

Patek Phillipe, Audemars Piquet, Girrard Perregaux, Jaegar Lecoultre (to name a few) ... now they are proper posh watches.

Omega are nice, (part of the swatch group now), Breitling would be worth a look depends how much you have to spend, but best thing is to buy the one you like the look of

Far from posh - but here's my old workhorse

You can also get some fabulous vintage watches. Maybe one from the year you were born?

I have a JLC which was made a year or two before I was born but I bought just because I really liked it.

From the modern watches I really like the IWC Portuguese. If you are buying a new watch don't just pay list price...you should be able to get a good deal. 10 to 20 per cent off is achievable...don't let them know you have a gift voucher til the deal is done.

it has to be from that jewellers is the only thing as that is where the voucher is for. So in response to the 2nd hand watches it depends if they have any in belfast. I think omega or tag heaur could be a winner. The voucher is for about 3300

It's going to depend on your budget, from EJ the only brands I'd touch are Tag Heuer, Omega, Hamilton or Seiko. Having said that if you like skeleton-type watches where you can see the movement then Tissot (used to anyway) do those. Personally I wouldn't though....:nono:

If you've got £3300 and it has to be from EJ buy an Omega, spending that sort of money on a Tag is madness.

Im happy to help with any advice you need, i sell these for a living

Just a thought, im pretty sure you can use EJ vouchers at leslie Davies too, as its the same company (as is H Samuels )

There are very few skeleton watches currently available, omega did a limited Edition Speedmaster a few years ago.

What you choose really depends on what you want to do with it or how long you intend to keep it as some brands have very good residuals and others have dire ones

£3300 is a hell of a lot to spend on a Tag Heuer, in camera terms it would be like spending £3k on a bridge camera, very nice but really....would you

i would want something that i could keep. I would never sell it as I'm thinking that it is a present from her since i can't get the stuff that was stolen if u know what i mean. What wrong with tag then i thought they were a good make. They seem to do a lot of brands tho breitling which i would have looked at isn't sold in the belfast store :(

IIRC Davies are a Rolex dealer and £3300 should be just about enough for a nice s/s Datejust. That'll hold it's value much better than any Tag or Omega at that sort of money...

but there isn't one here :( tbh holding value isn't my no1 deciding factor as i don't want to sell it

Ok, watches are like cars, there are differant levels

please note this is based on your price bracket as there are far better watches than these, but some would cost as much as a car or even a house

if it was my £3k i would be looking at

1, Breitling (My fave I wear a Breitling Chronomat Special Edition)
2, Rolex ( very few at this price plus they go up Approx 10% on 1/11/11)
3, Omega (A bit dear for what they are IMO)
4, Panari (The nuts if a little big)
5, i will add Cartier although im not a fan

then you could consider

Tag Heuer, Bell and Ross, Ebel or Longines. However these are considered to be a 2nd tier watch compared to the above

That said if your going to keep it I would just pick the one that I like

Another vote for Breitling..

Something else you need to consider ongoing with 'posh watches'..

1. The battery changes can be £50-100 per time to ensure they are sealed properly.

2. If you buy a motion powered watch (can't remember the term), they require servicing every 5 or so years at cost of £300+ and perhaps a lot more.

BATTERY........:bang::bang: :shake:.......

Its Automatic and at that price is IMO the only way to go

i wonder could the belfast shop order in a breitling if i found one i liked from another shop that does? might have to ask

what about one with a clear back? does anyone do one in my price range?

EJ, Can order any watch, that voucher is £3300 worth of sale to the shop, they will bend over backwards and if they dont, phone your insurance company and get it swapped for an LMG voucher and that will open open dozens more jewellers

Sub is now discontinued and the new one is well above Ops budget

The Panari is an awesome watch

Thank you, I thought it was automatic but it didn't sound right :)

From a practical perspective automatic is good if you wear your watch every day and it stays 'charged', but not if you leave it off for a few days at a time or wear it for best where you have to alter the time and date (and only between certain times with some watches) every time you wear it.

If you are hell bent on this i think you will only have a choice of either Seriously Premium watches that are out of your budget such as AP, Patek, some Panari or trying to find a Speedy that is "old new" stock which will be like finding a Rocking horse poo

You will find Glass backs on some chavy cheap watches too

Yes, this is a fair point, however at £3k im gonna wear it everyday, saves some little sheetbag breaking in and nicking it again

It's a long time since I had the sub, the Panerai makes a useful self defence tool - anyone tries to mug me I just hit them with it

Panerai, the PAM111 is £3400, not sure if you can get discounts on them nowadays, you didn't used to, but....

No discount on Panari and im in the trade, also there would be no discount with an insurance voucher as any discount goes to the insurance Company

But that is a seriously nice watch, without looking it up i recon its a 44 or 46mm case so size may be an issue.

When i replace my watch Panari would be top of my list

it will be at my house which is alarmed lol.!

I'm with you, no point in spending that kind of money on a watch and hardly wearing it. Would rather get my moneys worth and then get it serviced/refurbed when necessary.

44mm, once you've had one everything else seems tiny - except the 47mm versions

Looks like someone got nabbed making fake Pannys and had to find something to do with the bits they had left over

I was a Stockist :bang:

they are distributed in the Uk by the company that distributes Raymond Weil, TW is actually a decent seller in some place (just not our shop lol). They are a cheaper copy of U Boat watches really
