Hi all.

Just a quick one, new to lightroom, is their anyway i can show the focus point ??

i know their is some software i used to use, think it was the Nikon software, where i got a little cross, but don't really want to be jumping back and forth, really just want to see where the focus point was in certain images.

this is mainly an idea for learning macro, Was it a missed focal point or DOF ect, ect

It's not available in Lightroom. A guy called Luc Renambot got a plugin up and running but as far as I can see development stopped before it was finished. I've tweeted him to see if he's planning on putting it out.

The information is in the files, Adobe just do nothing with it.

Thanks, i have looked around lightroom tutorials and such, and couldn't find anything.

Nikon ViewNX2 and Nikon Capture NX2 will show focus points in Nikon NEF & JPEG files. Lightroom and Photoshop won't show them in either.

View NX2 is the top one here:

ViewNX2 marks the point with a red box. NX2 marks it with a side-less red box.

You can't do that.

What you can do (with Nikon software, but not Lightroom) is see which of the camera's focus points were used. But there is no way of telling whether the image composition changed, either through subject movement or camera movement, after focus was acquired. So the bit of the image which was under the focus point when the image was captured might not be the bit which was focused on. It's a subtle distinction but it could be important.

Stewart thanks for that explanation as I've often thought, in my Nikon software, that the focus point tool doesn't always seem to be on the most 'in focus' point so now you've cleared that niggle up for me (y)
