personally I'd say you protect this country (europe) by dealing with the problem at source , not by ignoring the problem until the otherside has established a large powrbase and are knocking on your door.

So, was it pointless to call the police? I'd say that it wasn't but what should happen is that we should stay until the job is done and we should be prepared to pay the cost in both cold hard cash and in body bags too but I don't think we will, not for a long time anyway as sadly I don't think that we Brits and the west in general give a flying anymore. We're just too short term and selfish. We wont spend the cash to save someone in a foreign land from a murderous regime and if we think we want the army to go in we'll change our mind as soon as the first body bags come back. Missed this last night.
There's a differenvpce between an accusation and a joke (we have names for people who need jokes explaining).

I didn't need the hindsight, I got close to falling out with a few friends when the invasion occurred, none of whom have come back to say 'you know what, you were right'. But that's nothing compared to the politicians who are too busy throwing s*** to have a proper think about how best to deal with the mess they've helped create.

Personally, I'm glad I don't have to come up with a plan, but if we could get some experts rather than some half wit politicians in charge, we might stand half a chance.
