Should the BBC be scrapped?

So how many who say Scrap the BBC have SKY, BT, Talktalk, etc on a monthly deal and probably pay more per year than they would for the license fee??

3 out of 4 (forget BBC3) of good programming, OK some Prog,s not so good or ITV with 6 Channels (I believe) of mostly not watched stuff.

Know which I prefer!!
Yes but why should you be forced by law to pay for the BBC if you don't use it?

In Germany all households have to pay for a tv licence wether you have a tv or not.....it is to cover the cost of those who watch on mobile devices and computers etc...... I hardly watch tv but when I do it is normally a BBC program or radio 4

Are you suggesting that this would be a good idea? My wife would have to get a license if they introduced this system, although she doesn't have television and neither of us have any interest in watching it on another device. I still prefer the user pays principle.

i dont have kids but still pay for schools

Don't be bringing sense like that into these discussions! :)

The license fee is what enables the BBC to produce some of the best programming on the planet, particularly in the sciences which may not be a viable enterprise for a profit-making company (look at the crap National Geographic etc. churn out in comparison).

Too much nònsense in the idea that micro accountancy will put money back in individuals' pockets. It never will but such concepts allows the ruling classes and the 'uber rich' to ply their trade safe that nobody is seriously scrutinising what they are up to.

The phrase 'in these uncertain times' will be found in American films going back to the early days of the talkies and is the usual scare tactics and allows macro control.

The BBC has a history of leadership and failure. It is scapegoated as 'leftie' and not fit for purpose etc etc

For me personally I relish it not having multiple breaks an hour for repetitive ads for sweet f a value.

I listen to the radio every day without fail and during my time living abroad I found the World Service a lifeline.

Beware what you wish for and all for less tban £3 a week.

When the rants and storytelling by our 'free press' drive the nay sayers on the future of what is our broadcating service, ask why you are being told something, what they want from you and how it will actually affect you.

Nothing in this life is perfect but "there ain't half some right greedy bastards out there"

Keep. If only for the fact that if the BBC suddenly started showing ads, all the major advertisers would want to advertise on the BBC (why wouldn't you, largest audience share in the country) and not all the little channels so I would expect many of them would go bust.

Plus a lot of European counties pay a TV licence and have ads, so we have it lucky here!!
