As the title says:
Should the advertising rules also cover those wishing to promote their own work if it's a published book or paid exhibition? and as discussed in this thread, should the rules extend to those seeking help, advice, contributions or collaboration with a project who's final outcomes may be a commercial product, such as a book, or paid exhibition?
While it's understandable for companies to pay to advertise their services on here, shouldn't a community like this do more to help individual artists to produce, and promote their own work, even if it's ultimately available via a commercial outlet?
I suggest there's a difference between advertising a service such as a hire studio, or a portrait photography service, or photographic courses and advertising your work... the actual work.. not a workshop, course, or service... actual images for sale. One fear would obviously be people just using the forums to advertise any old tat, but just as the classified forums get around this by only allowing mature, long-standing members to advertise their goods, so it should be the case for this. Is there a real reason to separate people selling individual items, and letting it be known they have a book for sale as an example?
Then there's the issue that currently, if anyone appealed on the forums for help with a project/book/ that may see some commercial gain for the author, then they can't even ask for subjects, or contributions or help from forum members. Why prevent a creative from creating work that could, possibly have a commercial outlet one day merely because some of the material was provided from other people?
Think about that a minute. Are we here to promote photography as art and help people succeed, or put barriers in their way?
Why are we making it impossible for an artist to make some money? Shouldn't we be helping to facilitate that as much as possible? Yes.. charge external advertisers who wish to use the platform for their own ends (skim links, banner ads etc.) but shouldn't forum members, once established, long term contributors to the community be allowed to make people aware that they have a book published, or maybe ask for contributors or collaborators for a commercial project?
I have neither a book published I wish to sell, nor am I wanting any help, contributions or collaboration with any forum members. This is purely an exercise in thought, as I feel the rules as they are could be prohibitive to creative promotion of member's work.
Thoughts appreciated.

] and in fairness, her posts were quite vague in how the final presentation would look/be presented [although I am another who finds her concept wholly admirable] The questions asked on a forum level, by a mod, were based on my first paragraph, we just have to be sure how and what is happening so we are not dealing with fallout later - and this would apply whether it was a new or existing member.
