Yes
There have been hundreds of rumours going around that Sony might stop Full Frame to concentrate on APS-C and the NEX series. Now i doubt that these rumours are true because Sony to me are a big player in the DSLR stakes.

So I've created this poll to see what everyone else thinks.

At the top of the page. "Go back one page" :D
I think they should continue. ;)

Another one to add to the pointless threads archive...... ;)

FWIW, they've produced some exciting stuff over the past few years and i suppose, if anything, it's kept the big two looking over their shoulder to some extent.

If we get enough votes on here, will they actually stop? I spy a whole bunch of Canon/Nikon users heading for the polls now...

Anyway, I don't care much either - but their new september announcements seem interesting, if true... and their new 'easy-peasy' or somesuch lens lineup seems competitive [35mm f/1.8 with IBIS etc..]

yeah I did create it for a sort of pointlessness but i was interested in what other people thought they should do.

apparently some have already got petitions ready just in case Sony stop production.

I think Sony won't stop and it could just be a rumour but it would be intriguing why they would stop what i would say was a successful line, as you say Dan the easy-peasy line is very competitive and if they are anything like the 50mm f1.8 then they would wipe out the budget offerings from Canon and Nikon.

No

The A900 looks great and the price point is very competitive.

Last i checked Canon And Nikon holds over 75% of the DSLR market, leaving Pentax, Sony and the like fighting for that 25% between them.

Sony is not a big player in the DSLR market, not even close.

They make very nice bodies but as a system they falls short, by a LONG way.

mostly because camera market is super hard to get in. most people will advise others to buy canikon as they have used it for long period of time and so on.
Minolta was the major player in USA, but the cards turned. as well as Nikon used to be major player until they messed up one model. it's a long fight to win the first position and only takes one mistake to drop out.
But I truly believe that Sony is here to stay. they love to be on top.

much as i like various other Sony products I cant ever see me buying a Sony DSLR , not sure why but I think theres better out there and there seems to be a distinct lack of extras and accessories etc , could be wrong though

Exactly, look at the money they have poured into it, buying Minolta etc, and look at where they are in the market place.

They might love to be on top, but they won't be for DSLR, not the way the market is. Mainly because as a system, they fall short. You can only advance so far in the Sony line up before you hit s brick wall, it doesn't offer the same as canon or nikon as a system and after you get past the entry level, they are actually more expensive to buy and upgrade. They make very nice beginner bodies to entice you and they are also ever bit as capable as all the other bigger players. There just isn't enough depth to keep one there before hitting that wall.

It's all down to what you like. i couldn't really get along with Canon cameras but the Nikon cameras weren't too bad, I think there are a plethora of accessories for Sony out there just as much as there is Canon and Nikon.

the a850/a900 eats most full frames ! ;) . well, for portrait, landscape and things like that. it's just that most FF users already have a FF and those who want to upgrade have already invested in lenses. the midrange on sony is good as well. a450, a500, a550 they're all good.

but still - the kit doesn't matter. tog does.

Why should I skip primes?

Well some primes (mainly Canon and Nikon oldies like the 50mm) can easily be outdone by a 24-70mm or 70-200mm unless you need the aperture.

Most people can get away with a 24-70mm and a 70-200mm but I prefer primes and happy with a decent 35mm f1.8, 50mm f1.8 and 85mm f1.8 (or Sony's budget f2.8)

Hence, as a system, they fail.

I need the aperture, Sony doesn't provide it. Period.

Ask any Nikon shooter what they wish they could have, it isn't bodies, its Fast, wide, primes.

I certainly want them to continue as I want a FF camera eventually and I don't want to give up my lenses.

Well, i already have 16-35/2.8 and the 24-70/2.8. I don't need the 70-200 as that isn't the range i shoot. I do however want/need faster lenses for what i do and the only route is primes since you can't get faster than 2.8 in zooms. Ultimately i want the holy trinity pf primes, their sharpness and bokeh just cant be beaten.

Its all nice and well saying newer bodies can push ISO harder but you cant beat real light in the end and every stop counts in a dark church in a wedding. You also cant beat true bokeh.

Given that I dislike the way Sony operate, I think they should stop making their own DSLRs and concentrate on providing better sensors to Nikon. That way everyone wins:lol:;)

Ok,:coat:
:D

no it's not Sony doesn't provide it it's just you want an f1.2 aperture;)

Believe me if I had to change system I would change to a Nikon D5000 with a series of primes along with a couple of flashes and that's all I ask from a system and Sony provides it for me comfortably and I ooze over them autofocused Zeiss primes that only Sony seem to provide:D

As a completely impartial person, with no desire for any more of this digical malarky at all, I think that you have to concede that the range of lenses and other items by Sony is far from that of Canikon, its pretty stupid to think otherwise. I'm not slagging off the system but for quite a few purposes, it is lacking. Particularly considering the price of some of the Sony lenses.

What do I know, if I could get a f2 lens for my system i'd be laughing...

yes I must admit that Sony is lacking certain lenses such as T&S and that the prices can be expensive compared to Canon and Nikon, I suppose it's all down to preference. I love Sony because their entry level models feel really robust well the old 200/300/350 generation did anyway.

That's exactly it! Entry models!

As soon as you get deeper into it you realise the lack of depth it is as a system. By the time you reach FF, your skill should hopefully be at a point where you want more lenses, and hitting that brick wall.

Oh no not the brick wall theory again Raymond!

I don't ask for much from a system and I looked into the future before purchasing into Sony and for me it's simple but I understand that some people might require more than I'm expecting and of course everybody is different.
