Should I move to full frame?

I shoot weddings,portraits and landscapes semi professionally and shoot with a d7100 and top of the range dx lenses which I am more than happy with ....... Would a move to a d600 be worthwhile ? Am I going to notice a significant difference? Ideally I'd love a d800 but cannot justify that quite yet with the purse string holder!!!!
I shoot night time landscapes too and a bit of astro photography

If you are happy with your D7100 why change?

If you decided to change prob better of looking at the D750 a.f is horrible on the D600 especially in low light which would be a bit of a bummer for your paid work.
 
I agree why change! I had a d7k last year and loved it...... I was offered the 7k1 at a steal of a price and bought it but can't deceide if it's me wanting fx or me not giving the d7100 enough of a chance

I have only had a quick play with a d7100 tbh but it seemed like a pretty decent camera. If you are happy enough with it I wouldn't bother changing until you feel it's no longer capable of doing what you want to use it for.

It's easy to get caught up in camera lust that doesn't serve a purpose. Although in saying that I have 4 full frame camera's.:ROFLMAO:
 
Full frame, go for it (y)

:canon:but you wont regret a Nikon FF, you can so much with the image :)
 
I've recently just moved to full frame, and so far I've been really impressed with the DoF and the lower noise at higher ISO, although not really used it extensively yet just playing around with a new toy

For me it made sense as I was 'due' a body upgrade anyway and I had already planned on buying some better lenses, so they just went in tandem.

For me it's definitely been worth it, but depending on the lenses you need to replace it could be an expensive shift to get the same functionality you already have
 
Well I've currently got a10.5 fisheye nikkor a sigma 10-20 f4 and a sigma 18-35mm 1.8 ART lens which I love and with the 7100 it's as sharp as anything! I'd have to sell all as well as the d7100 to get the 600 and probably the 18-35 f4 VR lens

If you go to FF you will not want to keep the DX lenses, believe me. It will highlight their inferiorities. Of course they will still work and some of the better DX lenses are still a delight to work with on the FF, but I would start to build up a collection of FF lenses now and only change the body when you have the lenses.
 
Hi I had a D600 before and now have D750. Had a few APS c ones including Fuji XT1. You will not notice any difference on a screen or normal prints. If you print a very large size, yes. I would go for D750.
 
The D600 makes more sense now that oil prices have come down. But the D610 might be better because they've added a dipstick!
 
What I would do is go and try one out take some media with you take your current camera and try out both shooting the same subject. Then go home and look at the results.

Good advice that.

I took a memory card to jessops and tried it in a 6D before i bought mine and it confirmed what i wanted it to. I used their 50mm 1.4 and 17-40L for comparison as this is what I had on my 550D and the DOF was so much nicer with the 50mm. the files were cleaner and less noisy, less distortion with the wide angle and for me the viewfinder was nicer as its a lot bigger and brighter. I loved my 550D but to be honest and i dont know if this is me putting more effort in or if the camera has helps or if its just me improving a bit but my photos have been a lot better since i changed. Probably a number of reasons but its sure made me want to get the best out of it.
 
A "full" frame would be a medium format film camera such as an RB67 :P which shoots massive 6x7cm negatives, has an insane DoF, and only costs about £300 (plus wedding shots on a film such as Portra 400 would look incredible).

** Now I wait for a large format user to correct me on my incorrect use of the words "full" and "massive" **

I'm playing, of course :)
 
I used to shoot with a mamiya 645 med format! Biggest regret was selling it

If you want or need what extra a full frame body will give you over your current kit and can afford (and justify) the expense of the change and any lens upgrades that may be necessary, go for it.
 
I went from a D90 to a D600 and couldn't be happier. The quality of the images (coupled with FX lenses) is incredible as well as the ability to adjust the raws much more than on DX. For example the higher dynamic range is really helpful.
 
I went from d90 to d7k and saw a huge difference so to 600 must of been massive

I think in your case it would make sense to go full frame, because you shoot landscapes etc and low light performance is to you.

I stay with crop sensor because I shoot airshows and it's quite handy to have a closer crop in camera!

So it's important for anybody to consider their direction, before wasting a load of cash.

Well, that makes the upgrade start to look even more expensive.

You'd want to sell the DX fisheye and replace it with a 16mm FX fisheye. The latter isn't much more expensive (less than £100 difference new) but what you'd need to pay to switch depends on the vagaries of the used market.

You'd want to sell the 10-20 and replace it with... what? I guess the 16-35 f/4 VR is the obvious choice if you can't afford the 14-24 f/2.8. The price difference there is about £200 for new lenses.

But how would you replace the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8? There isn't really an equivalent FX lens, and there aren't any f/1.8 DX zooms. Whatever you get would be a compromise.

I thought my D750 was a lot cleaner than the XT1 when shooting in RAW, especially after iso1600. The JPEg's were nice out of the Fuji though.

To what I have read there doesn't seem to be a big jump in performance between the D7100 and D600 are there any users here to confirm?? The D750 IMO is in a different league for low light and higher iso.
