Yeah, some cultures enrich ours, but there is one that tends to oust and eradicate ours - but piñata is Mexican, and I have Mexican relatives - and it is plain to see that it enriched this birthday party ;)

I don't know why we have to stop having these when we get older - pass the parcel would make a good pub game (but I prefer nuts to jelly with my beer) :nuts:

Maybe the woman in question walks around with a paper bag over her head to protect herself from such things.
Her kids would also have smaller paper bags, a little family walking around with brown paper bags with eye holes cut out of them and presumably a disapproving frown drawn on.
 
I think that the more ugly and basic and obvious the editing the better as it highlights what a silly world we seem to live in these days, or rather how silly a significant number of people are these days.
 
this is nonsense, whats wrong with putting up pics like this,id have blocked her and not responded. let her take legal advice or whatever. nothing will happen. sad world we live in where we cant put pics of a kids party online.
 
Russ you were very kind and considerate. You were clearly trying to do the right thing but for some reason this person was out for an argument. Please do not lower yourself to her level. Just do what you have to do to get her off your back and not take up anymore of your time.
 
That is such a sad sate of affairs, where children's heads are reduced to unrecognisable "blobs", just to keep some pathetic person happy. The resulting editing just ruins the pictures (not your fault Russ), and looks ridiculous.
Perhaps someone can put me straight on this. When I was at school, we had a photographer attend each year, and take individual photos of the pupils, and also group photos of the classes, and sometimes the whole year/school. Does this happen any more, and if so, are certain children edited out?
Do the "special" children ever play for sports teams, and feature in the photos/action shots taken?

As far as I know this still happens, however I'm sure parents are forewarned of the photographer's visit and can decide if they want their kid's picture taken or not, plus it's unlikely these photos will be displayed online.
 
It is getting more lilkely that they will be posted online though isn't it. Only takes one person to put on Facebook, Flickr etc,. and the rest we know.

To somehow think that can be stopped is a bit naive and the parents who think they can are in for an endless battle.

In my experience if children are subject to a child protection order (like for instance if they and one parent are hiding from the other abusive parent) photographers will be asked not to photograph them in a recognisable way.

I know of one who still plays for the footie club i do the photography for -I'm just careful not to get his face in anything that might go to the press. - which is the real issue, in my experience they arent concerned about his face getting on another parents facebook as the chances of being found that way are tiny (i'd imagine that his freinds parents are asked not to tag him but i don't actually know). When we do the yearly team photo I usally edit a smiley face over his before it goes to the media so that he can have one of the uneddited versions and stilll feel like part of the team

If its just pure parental paranoia then they can go jump - and the only way they'll keep little darlings out of pictures is by keeping them off the teams, which is hard on the kids but thats mum and dads choice

Lucy is a princess.... and I don't mean in a precocious way either, she's such a good girl :)

Although I have to say all my nieces & nephews are great kids..... Kevin... I mean Alex who is 13 can be a little "challenging" but she has her good days too :lol:

When I get home I'll put a link on to the whole album.

After they mentioned legal action I would've said something along the lines of you attempted to solve the matter civvily (how do you actually spell that?) but as she is seeking legal action you can no longer comment until you have received contact from her legal advisors. That way no time is wasted and you don't hear anymore. Not the best advice ever though if for some reason you want your friends to remain as her "friends".

That's funny you mention that. There is nothing that I know of that is more effective in shutting up a person that tries to scare you with the threat of a lawsuit. But seriously this person clearly doesn't understand that you get more bees with honey than you do with vinegar .. I feel sorry for the kids.

Saw my sis-in-law on Tuesday and she didn't say anything about it..... there's a fair probability my brother lied and said I'd taken the photos off ;) :lol:

Heard nothing else from the woman who "complained", although that's 'cos she's still on the good ol' block list and I no longer exist as far as she's concerned :lol:
 
Seems to me like Facebook will implode sooner than we think with the early adopters already bailing out - those being the teens and students who WANT to share everything with everyone. FB is no longer cool enough with everyone's mum onboard and your dirty jokes leaking out to them even if you try to keep them private.

Left behind are the latecomers who appreciate a level of privacy and sense of control over their social circles, but don't know or can't grasp FBs complex privacy setting jungle.

I don't know what they changed some time ago but I'm seeing a whole lot of stuff I didn't see before. Which makes it a certainty that a lot more people are seeing my rants than before. Not that I care that much because I would never post anything on there that I would like to keep private.

Kids party pictures? I now use smugmug to create private galleries and share the URL. If someone else wants to post individual pics for all to see its not my problem...

Facebook isn't to blame, it's a networking & communication tool. It's how other people utilise this tool that affects our perceptions of it. It's just a website after all, it holds no power.

If the mother had approached the op & said something along the lines of "please could you remove the photos in which my children are clearly visible" then we would be discussing a different thread. I've done it myself when I found photos of my son on a friends blog. Manners cost nothing.

If there had been a polite approach and cooperation where the woman had given me enough information about who her kids are I probably wouldn't have even posted this in here.

It was the level of rudeness and ignorance that made me do it :lol:
