No
On Thursday I woke up fine, but whilst getting ready to work my shouler and neck became stiff and painfull.

Whole of Thursday I couldn't move my neck without pain and limited movement, until I got out of my work chair around 4pm and must have just jolted it and clicked, which made movement a little bit better.

It's now easing off since then, but have a holiday soon and thought best see someone and possible short term fix or ease the pain a bit?

Initial Chriopractor intro and treatment £36, is it worth it?

Some people find it works, others dont.
Im in the dont category.
I had 5 treatments and the bloke told me what he thought was wrong. Turned out he was completely wrong so had been "treating" me for something that didnt even exsist and may have made the real issue worse.

Anyway, long story short, I ended up in hospital for a spinal fusion with discectomy and bone graft operation and Im still off work recovering from that 4 months later.

I had a disc injury towards the end of 2010....I got some good advice from a chiroptractor but did nt feel the treatments made any difference....

How about some rest and ice treatment for a few days and see how it feels then?

If you want treatment go to a properly qualified physio or try the book mentioned above - although a physio will give you the most appropriate exercises for your injury. Chiropractic techniques are about as effective as homeopathy. reiki and waving lumps of quartz around while chanting om :p

Chiropractic is based on the idea that health problems are due to your spine being out of alignment in ways that only chiropracters seem able to see. There is no proper scientific evidence that it works (or even that the ideas it is based on are real!) :cuckoo:

Secondly, the chiropracter may want you to have xrays - which you probably don't need - and would expose you needlessly to a dose of radiation, even if it's only a relatively small dose.

My advice is to see a qualified physiotherapist or your GP :)

Thanks

I've been to gp and had Nhs physio before. Seen several different physios in the past and been told different things from muscle structures, one muscle stiffer so other areas working overtime, fluid etc etc. Only thought of going as stiff and a bit if pain and going on holiday soon.

Been a few days now and it's alot better. Got an appointment booked in from last week for Monday morning, not sure if I should cancel.

I've got a constant creaking shoulder anyway, so maybe interesting to see what they say. This place has physio, sports massage, chiropractor and insurance approved so got to be ok ish?

When I rotate my right shoulder in either directing I can creak and crack it at will....I've read conflicting to views to it's nothing to worry about to get it checked out....it does nt cause me any issues so I leave it be....

The chiropracter didnt help me at all but physios can often help.If you feel you need to see someone before your holiday , see a physio would be my advice.

there is also osteopathy, which is more 'whole body' related rather than spinal and much more about muscle movement/stretching/massage and excersize than the 'cracking' employed by chiropractors. I have been working with one that has very successfully treated a hip and knee problem, but like all these things, its very much hit and miss I think and some will be much better than others - or to rephrase, some will be much worse than others. I would certainly say getting a medical opinion is worth while, even you prefer to then use that information to seek alternative treatments.

Cracking joints is caused by bubbles in the synovial fluid popping - which is why you have to wait before you can pop it again as the bubbles have to reform. It does no harm and may even relieve joint discomfort temporarily. :)

Over the years I've had Physio / Osteopath for neck problems & I've found :-

with treatment - initial pain + reduced bank balance , ok after a week
without treatment - slowly reducing pain, ok after a week

My personal treatment for *cricked kneck syndrome* is keep the area warm plus Ibuprofen AND paracetemol washed down with some medicinal alcohol :)

Works for me

I went to an Osteopath for my back treatment, must say it was well worth it, I had to go back for a couple of treatments, but he has sorted me right out!

I have been told that to become an osteopath takes years of training at uni etc learning the art, where as to become a chiropractor is just a very short course! Presume this is true as it came from a very reliable source!

Surgical removal of the painful part may help.

i used to go to the chiro for a back, shoulder and elbow issue. personally i found it worked a treat, my movement improved and strength came back through that arm etc.

they dont just do cracking of joints, my chiro also stripped out the muscle fibres in my forearm. man that HURT.

re xrays - you think any sane practice would start popping your bones without one to check if nothing is cracked or damaged? especially around the spinal area..

I think it depends on how good your chiropractor is. I go to one and he sorts me out in one session when I have problems. My father went to him and he checked him over and said that there was nothing that he could do for him as the problem was worn discs and no amount of manipulation would help.

update

back off holiday and went to see the chiropractor before hand as neck was still sore

first: sorted out my neck with the famous click and pop of the neck

second: diagnosed possible issue with my shoulder clicking, caused by the joints in my top neck, which i've been told before it is due to muscles and/or joints around the neck as it is tender etc. kind of makes sense, but not sure why it makes my shoulder creak. i assume limited movement in muscles and joints in the neck causing shoulder issues.

still to decide if i go back to second treatment. she did work on my neck which was more like easing tension in the neck area etc.
