Should i buy a Olympus OMD-EM1 from Hong Kong?

Based in China and fly out of Hong Kong, i have been looking at getting this camera and on Amazon UK they are £1950 with th e12-40 mm lens, i can get one of these from the big electronic retail stores in Hong Kong for about £1425 with the lens. Would you buy from Hong Kong or just get one from the UK?
 
On that kind of money I'd look at a U.K one for warranty purpose as long as it's like a 2-3 year U.K warranty? no idea on Olympus and how long warranty they offer, my Nikon has a 2 year warranty so was worth me getting a U.K one plus it had to go in for focus alignment and was cost free under warranty.

If only a 1 year warranty is offered and you don't plan to hammer it and as long as you fully check it over and are willing to risk import fee's it could be worth a gamble, depends if you don't mind a few months messing with warranty's or weeks as I have heard it can obvious take longer.

I've used them two or three times and never had to pay any duty, you do get a rather strange invoice though, one of mine said "toy samples"
 
People are getting invoiced now as items are being declared according to item name. Not at full value though. If you get a charge, they refund you the amount.
 
Is it really worth it? you could get clobbered and you will then have to have the funds to pay up for the duty etc and then wait to get it back from the company.

On top of this you will NOT qualify for any of Olympus's promotions or offers, you wont qualify for the pro service nor will you get the 2 year Olympus warranty or the extra 6 months warranty as offered currently.

Add to that you will most likely have to send the camera abroad to get any warranty work done and the potential savings though tempting don't seem quite so attractive.
 
The original post mentions Hong Kong or the large on line uk based retailer. Well after the recent exposure about the atrocious working conditions in this large uk establishment I would choose HK so as to avoid supporting this continued abuse. :)

Have a look at HDEW they import the camera from Hong Kong and send it to you. They are in Surrey and you can collect from them if you prefer. No chance of import fees. I have used them twice with a good experience both times. They provide their own 3 year warranty.

I really wanted the 12-40 mm lens with the deal as well, when you add up the body from hdew then buy the 12-40mm lens elsewhere the price is at £1800+, panamoz is prob the best deal i have seen so far, and it comes with the guarantee...
 
I got my kit from Panamoz and all I can is, I wouldn't hesitate in recommending them. I ordered mine on a Friday and the kit was delivered on the following Tuesday at Midday. I did have to pay import duty, but after 1 email explaining I had to pay £29, within 10 mins the money had been refunded straight back into my account.
Saving over £500 in this day n age is huge and I still get 2 years warranty. All those against using Panamoz obviously haven't used them

all above posts are for about a year ago , now i gana buy a nikon d7100 from them. has anybody bought any goods from them (panamoz) these days??are they still good on their services ??
