No
Looking at a wide angle lens, probably the Nikkor 14-24 2.8 lens, and maybe the 85mm and 50mm 1.4 primes to get in the near future.

Question is, should I get this before March 1st?

Whether I can afford it is another matter entirely! :D

Well I purchased the Nikkor 70-200 in October for £1149.00 and I got the Nikkor 24-70 for £998.00, completing the "holy trinity" appeals to me in a lame Nikon fan-boy kinda way. ;) Tragically the Nikkor 14-24 has once been £699.99!

I do have the 1.8 versions of the 50mm and 85mm, so trying to suss whether an upgrade to 1.4 is warranted.

Hmmmm.........

Consider if you actually need it - I bought one back in December and I've still not left the house with the bloody thing!

Forgot the trinity thing, do you need it and will you use it?

Don't buy something to "save" unless you think you'll use it..... its very very sharp but for my shooting practically useless in all honesty.

Just posted in the Tax free thread on suppliers but clearly these increases are now in place already at the airports, the D700 is now £1652 with RRP at 1899 so basically buy now or look for a big hike on those 'bargains'

Should have sold it to me then :p

It was never £699, it was mis-priced (Warehouse Express IIRC) which is why CPB records it, but never sold at that price. I remember as I tried to order one!

Ah, that makes me feel kinda better ;) I definitely think the 14-24 is a lens that I would use. I was going to buy it when it was under £1000.00 (!) I don't use filters and love wide-angle.

What's it like on the D700 compared to the 24 end of the 24-70? Should I just take a few steps back instead? ;)

Dunno, never compared.

My 24-70 is excellent at 24mm - I shot a landscape wide open 24mm just to see, and I thought I'd shot it at f/8 tbh!

The 14-24 might be sharper, probably is although its better at the wider end (which is a good thing really).

Thing is even if the pound strengthens and the yen falls, will the cost level out again? Or will it be a case of "this is how much it is--the good times are over"?

well i was thinking this and decided to buy a 50mm 1.8 except i cant find one :(

Unfortunately Canon and Nikon glass is like gold dust at the moment, IIRC most of them were snapped up before the first round of price increases and no replacement stock has arrived since :(

tell me about it i thought it would be easy , now i know why they go so quick when advertised on here

I dont know whether i should buy the 70-200 problem is I only have like 2 days left to descide....

Prices won't go down.

Remember when the pound was stronger? We still paid loads more than the USA or Japan.

People will get used to it - if folks are prepared to pay £1599 for the 14-24 on 1st March, they won't go down IMHO because a lot of the reason for the higher UK prices is that - for some reason - us Brits were always willing to pay more...
