Shot 400 Tri-X rated as 100

Shoot it all as 100

Then when you get to the developing, reduce the development time by 40-50%
Should come out ok, bit higher contrast though

How important are those 18 shots to you? It should probably handle a 2 stop deviation okay, with some changes to developing that Rob pointed out.

According to a Kodak technical publication on B&W motion picture film (which is essentially the same as still emulsions) that I was reading recently, for a 1 stop pull (i.e in your case like shooting at 200) reduce the dev time by 1 minute (and concurrently for pushing add on 2 minutes for each stop). The film will easily take the resulting 1 stop overexposure.

Turned out a f****** disaster. I think my developer is "off"... did everything by the letter and it stripped the film blank.. the lettering etc dev'd fine i.e "TriX 400" markings but nadda left on the film strip. Also, I know i did the process in the right order - made that mistake the first time... so pffft.. no idea. Ordering some new developer once I work out what films I'm trying next.

Save your money, it's not the developer

Sounds like you havent put the film in the camera properly

how is that possible?

put it in exactly as I have been into my F301.. (new FM2n)..

if I've just been a complete mug like that, this is one for the history books.

Surely an incorrect load wouldn't allow the film to advance / camera would complain etc..

Manual cameras don't tend to complain about film advance, i dont have a FM2n so i cant go into specifics but i assume you need to hook the leader into the spool on the right and advance the film one shot to make sure it's hooked

I'm sure a FM2n user will come along soon

Yea pretty much what i did... meh... good excuse to try a new developer anyway

I'm not sure how the F-301 is loaded, but probably worth checking with the FM2 user manual to ensure your loading procedure was as described in there.

The FE/FM loading is pretty simple though, was this the roll you moved between cameras?

Rebate (numbers) being present = your dev is fine.

I might try shooting the next roll in my Hexar at 100. Shooting at 400 with a max shutter speed of 1/250 is a pita sometimes.
