I was looking for 50mm 1.4g and have tested one today.
One of things I did not liked, was how slow it focuses....and to be honest it was too slow for me.
Now not sure what to look for...
I'm used to faster focusing lenses. 24-70 or 105DC are lightning fast in compare to 1.4g.

Any suggestions?
Maybe sigma 1.4?
Or shall I go back to old 35mm f2.0??

What about the 50mm 1.8G?

I do like the look of the new Sigma 35mm 1.4 :love: Not sure on focusing speed though.

Seriously? Maybe need to try a different one, I've certainly not seen any noticeable difference to my other lenses, but maybe I wasn't looking :shrug:
 
The 50 1.4G was too slow for me as well. Replaced it with the 1.8G which is noticeably faster.
 
At a guess, the ultra shallow DoF from an f/1.4 isn't helping things. Speed of AF is one of the reasons I was advised not to upgrade my old f/1.8 screw driven Nikkor 50mm AF to the f/1.4 AF-S although the reason for the slow AF wasn't explained to me.
 
Pretty sure that all DSLRs AF wide open. If there's a way to override that, it might well be the answer.
 
Siggy 35mm 1.4. I'm awaiting mine, should be here tomorrow, can let you know how quick it is then.
 
I have tested it at 2.8 and lower...no difference.24-70 was faster.

And it was AF hunting a bit while it is not on other lenses...even stepped down to f2.0 and lower

Please do let me know about sigma 35 1.4

Might be too high resolution for this kind of lens?

I don't think so. My Nikkor 35 is far and away my favourite lens on my D800, which produces fantastic images and really benefits from the resolution.
 
Which one is it? 35 f2.0 D?
 
Above my budget am afraid:)
 
The new sigma is even sharper than the Nikon, according to most reviews to date.
