Hi!!

I have always got a camera attached to me and i always take it everywhere, espescially family do's and what not.

There has been many a occasion where family members have either
a) shouted and or screamed at me to not point my lens at them(boyfriends brothers girlfriend - wasnt even taking a photo of her)
b) getting really funny because they dont like the end result and blame me for their bad hair day/acne/see through top
c) just being plain rude to me

How do i deal with this? It is making me feel very insecure about taking my camera places, and i thought i would NEVER feel like that.

Am i the one being rude?

The thing is, i value the value of a photography, espescially a good one, and most people i know dont understand why i do. I tell them that photographs are the closest you can get to a memory or a past moment imo.

Please someone help me - dont know how to deal with it.

Starting to get me down.:bang:

Thanks!!

yes, i know!!! haha

It is difficult eh?
it has gone as far as people bein very petite
silly people

Rather than just point the camera at people why not get them to co-operate. Try saying " come on all get together so as I can take a photograph of you all"

Spots acne etc, well that's what the healing tool is for in Photoshop.Let them know that small blemishes can and will be removed. You have to be subtle about this though.

Try and make it fun.

Occasionally leave the camera behind, and just have fun yourself

Hey Katy, A lot of people in my family don't get why i take photographs and sometimes turn their noses up to it. But hey, it is something i love to do and fair enough, if they don't want me to take a photo of them i won't.

Don't let it get you down, Just get out there and enjoy your photography

I can relate, I hate pulling my big lens out in a crowded place!!

Hee! :)

I think it depends on the person. I like taking photos, but I really don't like having mine taken (I'm not funny about it or anything though, I'd just rather not if I can help it)

Le...lea...le..leave the camera behind????????
are you mad??
:)
thanks. I do try that, it doesnt work all the time. i think maybe it is a lost cause. *sigh*

a) Either be more sneaky or more obvious. If the latter you can watch people to see how they react when they see the camera and if they show a hint of a frown leave them be.

b) Some people only want photos of when they're looking their best so you need to use a bit of judgement yourself. Are they looking well presented or dressing down? Again decide if it might be best to leave them out. Alternatively use the light and shade to show the best bits and hide the less than perfect aspects of their appearance.

c) Without knowing more details about the frequency, etc. of how often you meet with the family members it's hard to say for sure but it could simply be that certain people only see you at these gatherings and then you're always taking pictures. They may feel it's becoming tiresome and in their eyes you've become a "camera bore". The simplest solution is to concentrate on the people who don't mind having their picture taken and/or the children and infants.

I think you just have to accept some people just don't like having a camera pointed at them.

Sounds a bit childish to me, I've never had problems taking photos of anyone. I've even stood on the street with the nifty 50 on taking pics of people "up close & personal" with no problems.. Maybe they're just oversensitive. If it were me i'd just tell them to STFU, but thats me.

I wonder if they'd act the same if you had a compact

Thanks everyone.

I see them alot, and i dont always use my camera around them, only for things i feel should be remebered: birthday cake, babys, celebratory stuff.

They do see me without the camera going off. So it isnt like i am a 'camera bore'. But, hey, i am not gonna change. :)

Over-sensitive is a definate yes, in my books anyway.

And what does STFU mean??

Thanks everyone again :)
