Spent a few days earlier this yr in Derbyshire, Off again this time to the Alton area of Derbyshire, Looking for landscape locations, small village areas or indeed any interesting places to photograph, Hoping those with knowledge of the area might help point me in the right direction. This will help save time rather than just riding about searching.

Thanks..

Do a search for Dimmings Dale. It's just outside Alton on "Red Road" and is probably the most picturesque of all the Dales.

Also try Llam for that "small village look" which isn't far NE of there either.

Also, heading still further North is Lathkill Dale (Over Haddon).

If you find yourself anywhere near Matlock i would love to see a pic of the old farm i grew up on. It's the biggest farm in Derbyshire it's called 'Oldstones' and it's a cracking building in a beautiful village, it's been so long i really can't remember any other sites but i wish you luck :)

Good start Nathan, thanks for the locations.

Best wishes

Another vote for the Matlock area

A couple of suggestions from me...

Tissington .. Jacobean mansion well worth visitng, lovely little village

http://www.derbyshireuk.net/tissington.html

Dovedale ... Lovely riverside scenery

& nearby Ilam

Castleton .. probably THE place to visit, lovely village & great surrounding scenery

Pilsley which is on part of the Chatsworth estate..

This should give you a few options - to be honest you're spoilt for choice !!

To be honest I can't quite agree with the Matlock suggestion, spent most of my life around Derbyshire before my recent move to North Wales & its certainly nowhere near the top of my list

EDIT: If you are looking for impressive architecture Haddon Hall & Chatsworth House both close to Bakewell are excellent

Thanks lammie,Simon great help places noted..
Nathan, Matlock staying clear at weekend, thanks....

If you get chance have a look at the Upper Derwent valley and the Ladybower/ Derwent reservoirs. Plenty of photo opportunities there.

Ladybower and Derwent will add a fair amount of travelling time, as they're further north up the peak. I want to go there at some point though.

Lathkill Dale and Dovedale are good recommendations :) Oh, and Blue Water.

For something different to lovely hills and dales bear in mind that as mentioned Matlock get busy at weekend. This is because loads and loads (and i mean LOADS) of bikers congregate there. Some shinny wheels to be seen.

Remember Matlock gets VERY busy on sunny weekends.

But the scenery outside of Town is just as inspiring and not as crowded.

One tip with Lathkill Dale, when you get to the bottom of the hill remember you can turn left OR right. Left is great for the fantastically clear river, right is good for the dale itself.

IMO the best places to visit: Chatsworth House, Castleton and Bakewell. Every single one has something interesting and unique. I suggest to keep a little bit outside of villages, I am sure you will find some nice spots with rivers, etc

Thanks for the additions. On my way next week, praying for decent weather....
