Shooting in Vegas

Its hot, mad and great.
Make sure you go to the Bellagio and Fremont street at night. We were there for 3 nights and wished it was a lot longer. I had no worries walking around with my dslr 18-105mm lens most of the time and a 50mm 1.8 for inside the casino's.
Just remember anything goes in Vegas, have fun.

I've been 4 times now, still not enough. Got married by Elvis there 3 years ago!!

I'd suggest the Grand Canyon, +1 for Fremont Street (at night).

I did an Area 51 tour last year, very enjoyable. Some decent opportunities for photos. I'll think of more for you later....just finishing a night shift so my brain is all mush at the minute.

Hi Chris, good luck squire but be advised:

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!!! :rules:

If you like shooting cars, the Imperial Palace has a car museum. Maybe try and get up the Stratosphere. As you are not staying there as a guest, it's $10 to go up (free for guests). You can go outside though and you're a very long way up.

Without doubt a trip out to the Grand Canyon, absolutely stunning location, I challenge anyone not to get at least a couple of good photographs there. You can fly out there by various means. I paid about $100 for a day trip in a beat up 1950's De Havilland.

New York New York is a great place to photograph, especially at night. Harley Davidson diner next to MGM is ace, inside and out, be prepared for epic portion sizes if you choose to eat there! Definitely get to the Grand Canyon, it really is awesome. We also drove out to Lake Mead and Boulder City for the day, which was nice.

On the strip, prepare to be harassed by hundreds of Mexicans handing out business cards for whores, doesn't matter if you are man, woman or child, they'll be trying to thrust a card in your hand. Ignore them.

Definitely get out to the Grand Canyon! If you think you've got a rough idea how big it is from TV/pictures etc then multiply that estimate by 10.... and you're not even close! If you drive it (day to get there, day to get back) you get the Hoover Dam & Lake Mead thrown in. Flying is best though since it's an easy day trip.

Another option is to head north and visit Death Valley which is stunning especially at sunset when the rocks in the valley sides all change colour by the minute.

vegas regular here.love the place!!!!champagne lunch in canyon by helicopter was out of this world.tbh i have never taken many shots due to the buzz and exitement of the place, not wanting to miss anything.as been said ,freemomt st at nite is cool.top of stratosphere at sunset[ish] is amazing,if u want a massive thrill do the ride that propels u over the side and then drops again, brilliant!!!!!,my advice fwiw is for vegas is do it all slowly, otherwise it all becomes a blur.my fav hotel is the venetion].ENJOY!!!!
regards,
J.L.US.

FYI you CANNOT get a heli from Vegas to Grand Canyon. It takes you to the West Rim which is Indian grounds, crap, expensive and over 100 miles from the real Grand Canyon view - South Rim. Another way to tell is that helis cannot land in the actual canyon, hence the landing heli excursions are to the West Rim (crap). Also, on the glass walkway over the west rim you cannot take photos, have to buy their ones. Yup, crappy crapsticks!

Check out google for companies who will fly you in a small plane to South Rim airport from Vegas/Boulder. We went with papillon who were pretty good, inc a heli ride over the canyon it was just over £200 each, we'll worth it for such a trip.

Stratosphere is ok for sunset, but for by far the best sunset photo spot get yourself to 'Mix Lounge' at 'THE hotel', which is the sister and neighbouring hotel to Mandalay Bay next door. I met a Tog from Jaguar there who was in Vegas shooting for Jag :D

What ^^ Adam says. Don't bother with the overhyped and overpriced West Rim. When we did the South Rim we flew from Boulder (company picks you up in a mini bus) in something like a 20-seater with a woman driver . The heli across to the North Rim and back is also a must and despite what some will say, you CAN take great shots through the perspex of the heli.

One thing about Freemont - don't venture North of Freemont Street or you may be experiencing shooting of a different type. And keep your wits about you in Freemont Street.

Stratosphere. It's OK to take the trip to the top, just the once. I'd never do it again. As a hotel, it's a dump. My sister seems to prefer it   - when she's not staying at our pad.

So much to see and do. I'd advise on a walkabout camera when exploring the Strip. But you must take a hire car out to the surrounding area such as Red Rock, the slower Lakeshore Road out to Boulder Dam - and maybe even Death Valley.

If you want to shoot some proper stuff head over here

Oh my days!!!

I shot an AK47 a couple of weeks ago on Vietnam. I've never heard anything as loud in my life!!! (Well, except for the fella next to me going full tilt on an M60). I had defenders on as well and my ears were ringing. Definitely an experience worth doing, if a little pricey.
