Something to back up my last statement.......

they are nice - but with no EXIF I'm a bit lost as to what they back up.

To answer the OP - nothing longer than a 50 mm for this

I don't do much in the way of candid street photography but when I do I like the 85mm 1.8 on a crop body - it gives me a little more working distance and good separation from the background, but is still quite small and discreet.

candid shots at weddings are done on my , not particularly flash sigma 55-200.
far enough away to not be noticed.
decent head and shoulder shots can be had.
if i'm at a gig/street i can often get close enough with my 18-50.
