Shooting a prom...help

Hi, i've been asked to shoot a prom soon for a school, just wandering about shooting outside and inside but not with a studio and just wondered what sort of lenses etc. you would advise and tips etc. and lighting....thanks!

Fast glass, a camera body (well two, you need backup when being taking on for a job), flash with good power as you will be wanting to bounce rather than direct so you don't get harsh, flat lit subjects.

If you are shooting in the school hall, the ceiling will probably be too high to bounce off, so use a flashgun with a softbox, preferably off to the side.
