I've just had two baby foxy cubs almost wander into my living room... :love: :woot:

I live in deep East London, terraced houses everywhere kinda environment.

Ahhh, there so sweet I'm telling ya.

Suddenly looked up from the screen and they both look up at me through the open French doors, one of them with his/her foot on the step. :D

I froze, just looked whilst trying to disguise the fact as you do...my camera and bag about six feet away ... nope no good, they didn't like the look of me... off trotting down to the back of the garden and away...

So now I'm sitting here with the camera on my lap. :naughty: I've even turned my iso up. :eek:
... but I bet they won't come back tonight... so don't watch this space... but I just know they'll be back, and soon.


Just thought you should know. ...pictures soon, almost certainly. :D

They were probably saying to each other - "Right, you distract him with your cuteness and I'll sneak the biscuits - mum'll be pleased"
 
I'll pop up the stables to get my red jacket and stick the hounds in the car.

Should be with you in a couple of hours for some sport.

Gone now,:( ...I've closed the curtains and dimmed the light ... but if I do get any now their gonna be underexposed. :D

Are you sure they'd be underexposed? While this shot has not photographic merit at all it is a good example of what you can pull out of the bag, lighting wise. This was shot at 21:30 at night in November with my 30D and the builtin flash. 1/60, f/4, 800 ISO. This was shot in raw and has had no PP. There was a bit of light coming from the house, just indoor lights, no outside floods or anything, so basically the lighting here was all done with the popup.

They should be called ISO (said as a word) and F-stop!

Cheers for the thought, and thanks you quite right ...yep I could get a correctly exposed piccy ...problem is I can't see the fox in the dark to take a shot. :D ... and also because the flash would scare the heck out of him ...possibly ..I not risking it. ......excuse it got darker as I wrote ;)

Just for interest.... Some old shots of my regular yearly visitors here on my East London Fox blogs. I've Not had any cubs shots before but It wouldn't be a bad guess to assume one or two of the foxes captured are related to these new youngsters.

I've just been into garden in the gloom, clearing up and closing doors, as I did so there lots of bush rustling all of a sudden and I see one of them slink away in the deep shadows, looked at me briefly on the high flower bead over at the back, and I casually closed the doors, no threat here kinda thing...

Really feel like I'll get some shots tomorrow. ... you'll be the first to know. :D

To be honest I couldn't see much either but the camera had no problem focusing. I would think in London there would be enough ambient light to at least be able to spot them - then let the camera earn its keep. My shot was at 20mm, by the way, so a 50mm would be a pretty hefty telephoto by comparison :)
 
When trying to befriend some fox cubs some years ago I discovered that sausages were a very useful incentive - got to the point where I could hand feed them.. I too sit on the fence where hunting is concerned. Bloodhounding is much more fun - you chase men on foot instead of foxes and cover miles at a very fast gallop - frightened the s***t out of me the first time even *** I was on a very experienced horse!)

Its done well focusing in that light, Id be struggling to get really sharp shots I reckon....I'll be on 200mm btw ...or 300 equiv on my d70 I could get shots possibly, but not nice ones, your lens being much much wider would find the whole auto focus and getting good exposure much easier.

There is a lot of ambient light covering the whole of London and although scenes sometimes seems well lit by eye, its way darker by light meter I always find. :)

I've never done boodhounding ... sounds great, chasing people down, ooh stop me. LOl.

Have you tried squeaking them?
NO, no not bubble & squeak ( good name though :D)
suck on the back of your hand to make a noise like a rabbit squealing that will hold their attention for a bit at least,
and will also "pull them in" a little closer. Or you could use a peice of polystyrene (Sp?) and drag it across glass.........
Takes a lot of practice though.

Something to practice on those cold dark nights :D
once you have their attention stop.
If you over do it it has the opposite effect.
 
whay! ...about half an hour ago ..phew didn't think they where going to show themselves after paying attention for two days and nothing, nada not a sign... except for the food on the bird table disappearing in the night I'd kinda stopped watching continuously.
Then suddenly this morning my cat is howling in mid fight as she beats the poor baby fox into submission via the cat flap, lol. (Shes small but insanely fierce. :cuckoo: )

This shot was taken milliseconds before her second attack shot through the glass doors. ....


Only one baby fox, haven't seen the other at all so far... this ones about a foot high to her ear tips. Nasty wound on her head, looks like its pustulating itself out so maybe fine. (made up word)

Trouble was, as I push the doors open slowly to get another few shots she darts through silently (she bloody knows I don't want her too) ... and attacks the cub like a screaming banshee on steroids, both front legs out to the sides, full claw attack whilst the rear legs propel her across the garden wheelie style. :eek: :cuckoo:

By the time I got the camera to my eye ...gone again, blinkin cat. :( :bang: :lol:

I know! when I first saw them last week I thought well, they're still cubs just not very fat and tubby like I expected. .... too much TV maybe. :lol: still a sweet little thing think I think, like a tiny version of mum and dad.

Just caught up on this thread Adam ... in a quiet wet moment on Skye (there have been plenty - see JL's & Marcel's 365s ... :D) ... a great OP and superb build up to a fantastical capture ... :clap: ... well done for getting at least that one ... :thumbs:


What a real cutie and the whole thing kinda reminds me of the Springwatch style will they won't they (show that is) ... :shrug:


Will keep an eye open for more but you really ought to tether the cat ... to a noose ... :naughty:

Well, when the cubs grow up, or if their parents come visiting, it will be the cat who runs for its life...
