Nice detail in the flower and the soft lighting is nice, but I'd have tried to avoid the door frame (I assume) in the background. It draws my eye a little.

It may be on the lens, I haven't used the 60mm for ages.

Nice colours, frame in the background is not ideal. Not as many dust bunnies as I have in mine.:):D

Nice soft lighting Shirley.
Could you crop out the frame on the left without losing the theme?

I just went to my doc to get rid of the window frame but I couldn't bring myself to chop the beautiful orchid in half. I'll know next time to move the item I'm photographing away from frames etc. I suppose I did see the frame not the dust spot but my eyes were on the flower. My hobby of growing Orchids.

Nice photo on theme with the new budding flowers - I have one just coming back again now too!
Agree with the other comments that the frame could have been cropped out.

A good idea for the theme. As said, perhaps crop in to lose the door frame?

Nice shot. I would have gone for a more contrasty background.

A lovely flower. I would have cropped a little tighter perhaps. Good start to the year.

I once heard the phrase 'before you press the shutter, look around for clutter'. However I have been caught out many times by something in the background that I hadn't noticed, or dust on macro shots is another. Lovely bud and a great hobby. I hope we get to see more orchids in your 52.

Week 2 Old
A very old warning perch situated on a row of rocks at Morfa Nefyn in the Irish Sea. When a storm comes the waves crash over this but it remains standing. Warning for the fishing boats and other boats to stay clear.the perch.jpg

An interesting subject Shirley. It's one I would have used a long exposure for, something minimal.

^^^^^ Me too!

Nice composition - just could do with being a bit sharper. I;d love to see a shot with those crashing waves!

also it looks not quite vertical, a quick tweak in your processing software will sort it out.

The verticals don't worry me, because probably it isn't vertical IRL (It's old !)
I can understand where the comments about long exposure come from, but not for me, I think something like this needs to show the power of the sea around it, and smoothing the water would remove that.
Like Dave, I'm guessing this is a crop in at the far end of the reach of your lens.

I like minimalist shots like this - I've got a couple of similar ones amongst my collection. I'd have straightened it a bit, but that's just me and I like @Darkslinger 's idea of a long exposure too...

Your wish is my command, yes it was a crop and slightly off straight. Went back to-day in gale force wind and guess what. I use a 400mm prime lens and its a real distance away. day.jpg

Yes, I guessed it was a crop, it had the feel of being in the distance. as I said, not an issue for me.
But looking forward to seeing the shot in gale force winds. I bet the sea really shows it's force!

Just tried taking the photo on my phone, the little video was nice but I couldn't get it on. I also carry my phone but not a second camera as I am bird watching and have a long lens. I could go back with a different camera but up to my eyes in gardening this week.

Not too sure if it's really a receptacle, but you've done well with your phone! I have an app on my phone for longer exposures but I never remember to use it. Did you use an app?

I like your choice for old. Definitely more dramatic with the sea crashing over it :)

Sorry, I don't do apps.

Its a circular pipe which contains water.

The other end receives it, the end you caught emits it. The ditch in your shot is the receptacle ;).

I think that I agree with Nod, Shirley. You have captured a receptacle but it's the ditch rather than the pipe. I like how the image captures the action of the water.

I would agree about the ditch being the receptacle. Interesting take on the theme.

With my few lens that I have and clearly poor photos, cannot continue.

The stream is exactly the same as the pipe, there is always water in the pipe as it is in the stream. Its a play on words. I feel its a more interesting view than just a bottle on a table. Its a personal idea on the word Receptacle.

Nothing wrong with your recptacle shot, fits the theme. Nothing wrong with using a phone with a camera in it. It gets you thinking.
Good luck with the gardening, that's what my wife is currently doing, it's not for me.

Week 4 ~~ Bottle
An old perfume bottle that someone gave me over 30 years ago, they bought over from Ireland. Its called Ashling and its beautiful. Can't bring myself to throw it out.
