Shipping expensive items to europe...

I would just like to know if anyone ships expensive items across europe, and if so, what shipping methods do you use?

Royal Mail seems in a tiz. You can have Signed for Airmail, which needs to be signed on delivery, BUT is only tracked until it leaves the UK, or they have Airsure which is tracked all the way, BUT isnt signed for (and is only available in certain countries)!

Would using a courier be a better option?

Depends how much you want to pay. Fedex, DHL, UPS are all a lot more expensive.

Parcelforce is a bit cheaper, but tracking diabolical.

With couriers you also need to pay extra for insurance, or you'll get £ 12 / kg if it went missing.
