Shiny skin?

Yesterday was very hot and the venue was even hotter when it filled up with folk, this gave everyones skin a sheen that I would like to get rid of, especially in this shot.

I've tried applying a light softening tool over her face (not in this example) which I think it needs anyway but it doesn't help enough with the shine. Any tips on the best way to cut down on it?

I don't know if this helps, I copied the layer and applied Gaussian Blur of about 1 pixel, created a layer mask and brought back almost everything except the shiny skin, it's only a quick and dirty edit but you get the idea.

Cheers m8, that's pretty much the same effect the softening brush had in my software. It's a big improvement on her skin overall I think.

I've just remembered another method, I downloaded Edgarian Blur from ATN Central a while back and thought I'd try it, again bringing back the eyes, mouth etc with a Layer Mask This is a 2 minute edit but with a bit more time I think it could be what you are looking for.

I'd set the clone tool to very low opacity and clone out the shiny bits building up gradually to the surrounding tones.

Then perhaps apply Colin's Blur layer effect for a nice soft finish?

This is using 2 filters from Virtual Photographer - 'Romance' and 'Natural Portrait' . It's a freebie download and works as a plugin with Paint Shop Pro.

Cheers CT, I've got VP but hadn't thought of that, I think your finish maybe makes the skin look a little too dry so I've tried taking a midway line.

I've gone with this so far. I did some gentle cloning over the skin to decrease the shine and remove a couple of blemishes. Then applied the Romance filter you suggested but dropped the saturation manually.

I use the "heal" brush in Photoshop for this. Last picture ^ looks much better

I use the clone tool set to 50 opacity and mode to darken, then clone from close to the area. using this method and only the light pixels are affected and the skin keeps it texture.

It tooka while and a lot of restarts but I finally got an image I'm happy (and more importantly the bride and familly are happy) with. I have to say it looks far better in print then it does on screen but it'd ok here too.
