Dog nose for me  You managed to get the focus spot on before he went so that's good. For my white backgrounds I just use a sheet of white paper or card ontop of my bookcase and leaning against the wall so it curves round and there's no seam ;) The object you are photographong holds it in place.

Hi dog pic is the better of the two, the bottles is not very well composed.
lovely sharp pic of the dogs nose, it's a winner for me.

The 2nd scent bottle is better. As others have said, the leaning LH bottle is a bit distracting. May have been better with a more triangular composition?

Hi!

Your 2nd image of the perfumes is much better I think.
I like the dog image, but I think I prefer the non-dog image as I think it's more original.

Hi
Much prefer the doggie nose pic. well done on catching that shot. Good DOF

Another vote for the dog from me. Super sharp where it needs to be and a lovely shallow DoF which accentuates the bokeh in the eyes. Taking a symmetrical approach works really well.

I vote for the dog image, sharp where it needs to be, plenty of detail in the nose.

Plus, at the price I paid for the lens it had better not be distortion. It's a Nikkor 28mm f1.8g on a DX (D7000).
I think distortion happens on lenses for different reasons regardless of price, but it’s not always a bad effect! My most expensive lens has the worst distortion!

The dogs nose is much better, the bokeh on the eyes is a nice touch!

My dog's nose is all you see of him in my Sense picture, just thought I'd let you see what he looks like in full: this picture was taken a year ago.

The first image i like the black and white conversion but i am not keen on the composition. I find the second image fits the theme better for me but it looks like a snap shot rather than an image with the wow factor. Your third image again fits the theme and as simple as it i like the composition and it is the one i vote for out of your 3.

I think I like your last grave shot the best. I think the grey scale makes it work really well. Good job with doing multiple ideas

Hi out of them all I like "mobius" but he composition is wrong needs some more space around it, its an interesting shape and more could be made out of it

Since a mobius strip has only one side I was thinking of drawing a little stick man walking and never reaching the end (there isn't one) but couldn't think how to do it, or indeed whether or not I should.

One thing I am finding doing this challenge-52 is that I lack light. This was lit by a ceiling-bounced SB700 flash gun but I would have liked to have lit it from the side and/or the bottom but can't trigger my flash off camera without firing my on-camera flash which would wash out the front. I may build a light box.

I am trying to find the angle that fits the theme but at the same time is a little different. My shot of the end-of-line was just an emergency back-up if none of the others worked.

Hmmmm.....going back and forth I'm not sure what image I prefer for ending, keep changing my mind.
The gravestones with only the central one in focus I think is a good idea.
I think I'd have to settle on the chess pieces as the one I prefer, although I'm a bit confused about where the focus is and why I'd the top of the king is in focus and the bottom isn't? I think it would benefit from a wider DoF

I'm using a Nikkor FX 28mm f1.8 on a DX camera, the angle is slightly high and the depth of field is miniscule as i've fully opened the diaphragm. If I'd opened up the DoF, where would I stop? So I concentrated on the top of the King and left everything else as it was. I might have changed the checkmate position for a better picture but it's a real ending in an actual chess game and I like things to be real. Having said that I did introduce some grain but then in days of film, with the lighting I had on hand, I would have had the grain anyway so my conscience is assuaged.

Hi Martin..

Ending:
Of all the pictures posted for this week I like end 2 and end 7 best.

End 2 - Looks good in b&w and I like the POV (from the side) you've chosen. The graves stones either side of the focal point grave stone have enough focus to pull the whole lot together.

End 7 - Nicely contolled use of DOF here. I like the side lighting and noise too. (y)

HI ya

just read your strap line...." Keep your chicken strips small and your shiny side up " , another biker I see...what's your ride ?

Sooo many pic's to chose from ......Ending , going for the last one , the close up of the headstone with the flowers....mono works really well just need to get the headstone vertical :)

Like the Mobius image as well , just needs something more....negative space to one side maybe ?

Terminus ending , needs some contrast or a mono conversion as the colors seem a little washed out , good low POV though :) Possible crop to the top of the red board to lose the wheelie bins as well

& that is one gorgeous looking pooch , love the energy Collies have (y)

Good selection of shots - you have been busy!

Prefer the Mobius strip out of all of them, as it's a bit out of the ordinary.

Hi Martin...I just had a look at all your pics...terminus...sorry it just doesn't grab my attention. The graveyard shots I like the out of focus one the best. Chess, I do really like that picture a lot, the composition and the focus is really very nice indeed.
But my favourite is the Mobius....another new word for me :) I would just like it to be set in a much larger black background, I think the stark black and white looks great.

Hi Martin

Sense - I think that the bottles of scent is a great idea but probably needed more attention in the setup with a seamless b/g and lower pov.
Dog nose is spot on

Ending - I think that the mobius is the best, followed by the single black gravestone in the middle of 2 others - good dof on that. Chess is too grainy and oof for me.

On the mobius you make ref to the OCF - were you using the d7000 in commander mode ? Was that little bit of preflash registering on the subject?

Thanks for the comments all, there is great variation into what most people like but it sems to come down to the mobius strip for 'ending', I do try to take a different angle on the themes if I can.

Superpippo, I used the flash on the camera and bounced it off the ceiling. I was referring to my first attempts at remote triggering when the OCF went off but not while the shutter was open. I know there is a way round this but I've only recently purchased the flashgun and am still learning how to use it's more advanced features. It's an Nikon SB-700. I'll have a look at commander mode, perhaps that's the answer.

I found these sites to be useful when trying to understand and use the d7000 commander mode. one of them does not include the SB700 but i think that the instructions should be pretty much the same.

Lots of options to chose from this week but I have to say I like the simplicity of the mobius strip. The black background is exactly that - black. The whites in the strip equally are white but without being blown out. The lighting is nice as it shows the shadows which helps provide context to it being a 3D subject. Nice one.

I'm voting for the loop too, although I also like the check mate

Not easy this week, perhaps more ideas will come to me but probably not with this one. Not too enamoured with this shot but it's on theme and that's about it.
