So it is car insurance time in 4 days time.
been with Hastings Premier for a few years always been cheapest with good cover.
last year was £285 now want £323, fully comp legal cover etc etc.

Just done the usual gocompare and shielas wheels £238 all in seems pretty reasonable.

anyone any experience with them?

Also ESURE and AA at same price.

Sheila’s Wheels is part of Esure so that’s why the quote is the same. SW was just a brand ad-targeted at women. Esure are a decent enough company, you should be ok with them. Don’t forget the AA are just insurance brokers so I’d want to know the actual company that are insuring you before committing to them.

Thanks I was swaying towards ESURE rather than AA

We only have a 58 plate Citroen C3 so just decent basic insurance is enough.
We have a full AA policy that covers us for all the trimming as me and the wife both have motorbikes worth more than the car.

Ageas have been terrible with my claim this year after I had my motorbike written off in June. Still unresolved so stay clear of them

Bikes are back with Bennetts after a few years with EBIKE
suddenly Bennetts just plummeted for me and wife last year.

Ebike are underwritten by Ageas, as are many others, so be careful.
Bennetts are now owned by Saga - an advantage to being old? :D

its weird but my wife got her renewal for her CBF500 early last year and EBIKE wanted £200 or thereabouts so we (for the first time) used a price comparison site for the bike insurance and Bennetts were EPIC.I soon followed on, I think her policy ended up at £130 fully comp and my z750 is a tenner more.

Just to add, from my recent experience Hastings Direct are pretty good and quick at paying out, on a theft though so not sure if they would quibble over an accident/repair.

found them to be a great company for last 3 years but suddenly they are £100 out of touch.
I am planning to call them up tomorrow and have THAT chat, still got 4 days before current insurance expires.

I would add that it may be worth asking a local broker - mine was WAY cheaper than any of the companies on the 'Compare' type sites..

I rarely go with the same company two years running. I do tend to stick with the 'names' these days though as I like to know who's really insuring me, the likes of AA, Post Office etc are just fronts for BISL.

Well that was odd, I rang up Hastings to have the CHAT and basically my policy plummeted in cost from the renewal of £328 down to £255 which is about £20 more than I could have got it for but I can live with that.

happy bunny

I've just moved across to Esure from DirectLine after about 4 years, changed car last year and DL wanted to put my insurance up by about £300 at renewal!!

Direct Line have gotten really greedy just lately. I had 4 policies with them for the past 12 years but over the last year they have lost all 4 of them to competitors due to ridiculous price hikes.

All of them try it on.
Lazy tax for those that just renew, then when you ring them up "Oh sir all policies have gone up 30% this year due to..." insert invalid reason why they are trying to actually stitch you much more. "Lets see what we can do" then they get it close to the original price but just slightly more....

Standard practice these days

Yup ^ I have a little rule though if I get a high renewal quote I will not ask them to improve on it, I figure if they can afford to charge less they should have done so at the start.

Exactly the same here with evything, be it breakdown, insurance, phone...

If they wanted to keep me as a customer, then they wouldn’t try and shaft me for more money, so they can go swivel. I’ll take my business elsewhere..
Granted after several years of sticking to that policy, I end up back at the start eventually :D

Several times I’ve had the company ask why I’m not renewing, or when I ring up to cancel. When they tell me they can do a better price, they get quite shocked when I tell them to foxtrot.

I also challenge everything but I will always call a current supplier to price match its just a game I never take it personal. Professional and polite tends to win the day.

Breakdown is the worse. I flipflop between AA and RAC as with topcashback I can get cover for me and my wife for under £100 a year. The next year they always take the renewal to £250 for 'membership benefits'

have exactly the same with the AA for a few years now, both me and wife have the bikes and our sad and lonely car.
We do have the top premium package and this year they wanted something nuts like £230 but after loads of moaning took it at £140/

Back in 1984 the RAC made a very good Life Membership Deal - and my husband took advantage of it :)

Before his death we had had need of it on a few occasions - and I last had to use it about a year ago :)

I reckon that deal then, has saved me a wee fortune since :)
