Watched the DVD last night, is it me or is this just another example of hollywood ruining another perfectly good story?

I found myself bored rigid watching it.

It's not just you.

Indeed - I am with you too.
It was perfectly set up - not too much hype, RDJ in the lead and a proper budget.

It just failed to deliver - I think probably down to a badly written script rather than any production values.

The set was stunning and effects were nicely understated IMO.

It was Guy Ritchie's take on Holmes.
If you were expecting a film true to Conan Doyles character then not a chance.
I like Guy Ritchie films, I know what to expect from him so I'm happy with his 'popcorn' style.

Hmmm I do agree with you about the Guy Ritchie films and style - The production values were awesome.

The but (and it is a biggie) is that Guy did not write the screenplay like he did for snatch, lockstock etc and for me this was where it fell down :(

The cinematography was very good, the London streets nice and dirty, good costumes etc. My problem is with the story line and the characters, there's too much emphasis on special effects (and what's with those 'Ninja moments' that Holmes has?) The film was a decent length and without all the flash-bang-wizardry there would have been plenty of time to tell a really good story, instead we got shallow caricatures and poor jokes, typical hollywood.

I liked it, but I wasn't expecting sherlock holmes, as a film it was good just nothing like the books :D

I thought it was pretty cool. A more modern and cool take on the classic (though I love the Basil Rathbone ones, they are fantastic). Cool action sequences, amazing scenery. My little brother Felix really likes it!

i really enjoyed it.
For me it is how the real adventure movie should be ;D
cant wait to get my hands on Bluray copy ;D

I really loved it, thought it was brilliant, very very clever :)
