I may be completely wrong, but thats how the 10 pages come across to an outsider!
You hit the nail right on the head there!
Almost exactly a year ago, I submitted a panel of photos to the SWPP's wildlife branch (SINWP) as part of their free mentoring scheme. The images were assessed and I was awarded my Licentiateship and asked to pay for the examination.
At the time I was delighted to have been accredited, but shortly afterwards I ended up feeling like I had been conned. You see the problem is this: the assessment was carried out by a portrait and wedding specialist. Whilst undeniably a very talented photographer, I was left wondering just how much wildlife experience he had.
Prior to my departure from their forum, several of us were asking the management for the names of those people that would be carrying out the assessments in each of the categories, and what experience they have in that field. No answer was forthcoming.
Of course, now that I've told them that I will not be renewing my membership, they've asked me to return my certificate of qualification. This strikes me as very strange indeed - it makes for an odd qualification. Should I similarly expect a request from my old school to return my 'O' level certificates from all those years ago, just because I no longer go?
I could understand it if the qualification was subject to regular review, but it isn't: as long as you pay your fee, you remain 'qualified'. Mind you, it doesn't say on the certificate "remains the property of the SWPP" and since they didn't bother to include a stamped address envelope, they can go whistle!
I was also told that I could no longer use the letters after my name either.
