Hi all,

I managed to capture this beautiful moment with my son..obviously do understand the capture isnn't techinically right..i.e. the near side eye is de-focussed and the forehead over the same eye appears blurry..

My question is, am I able to sharpen his right eye via. PP? If so, how?

The left eye is a little soft, too. The camera seems to have focused on his mouth. If you use Lightroom you could try an Adjustment Brush with Clarity set to a fairly high number. This uses Local Contrast Enhancement to make details appear sharper. Not sure how you can do this in other post-processing software, though.

Thanks Garry..Yes do agree, the left eye is soft as well. It was just one of those random shots...but my wife is in love with it so much that she wants to enlarge it..

The technique that you've mentioned above, am I able to do this on PS elements?

Thanks.

will do..thanks Garry :-)

The clarity slider in Lightroom can be replicated using Elements has all it does is increase local contrast to the mid tones .

Using Elements 9

1- Open your image then duplicate it as a background layer, change the blend mode of this layer to luminosity.

2- Go to Enhance > Adjust Lighting > Shadow and Highlights, set the highlight and shadow sliders to zero as we just wish to use the mid tone slider and now increase the mid tone slider to add clarity and click OK. This will effect all the image so...

3- Now add a layer mask and fill it with black, this hides the adjustments you have just made.

4- Now making sure the layer mask is active use the brush tool and white paint to paint back the clarity in the eyes.

If you do not have Elements 9 but a earlier version then you will have to install the free layer mask that is available or use a clipping layer.

You seem to have a bit of camera shake going on here as well - hardly surprising, really - a new baby should make your hands shake a bit ;)

Anyway, this version has had the eyes & mouth selectively sharpened in PS:
