weekly Severn Bore's 52 in 2014

Hi Andrew

Missed your Step shot somehow......
The SC'd version is the tops for me....the bg is a little distracting when all in color

Nature....superb image...the detail in the fine hairs is perfect as is the lighting , blackness of the bg & the color of the leaves.....excellent shot

nice set of action pics, though the balls a strange shape, wouldn't like to header that...lol

Cool shots of fast eddie - he certainly looks like he lives up to his name.... Wonder if you could have gotten better by raising the shutter speed even further (1/1000 or faster), you had room to spare on the ISO.

Well done with keeping up with him though.

#3 is RH best if the set IMO. Pity about RH shadow at the bottom, perhaps a slight crop would remove some. BG OOF looks a little Odd

Chests.

2nd for me Andrew, love the composition with him turning towards the ball (y) Looking on flickr, it looks like you might have just missed focus. It looks to be on his ar..... rear end :D instead of the head :)

First is a cracker, just for the most unusual dog pose :D, well captured (y)

HI Andrew

great action shots , the little fella sure looks to be enjoying himself :) I though 3 was the best ( ignoring the shadow ) but when viewed big on flickr the focus is possibly just off is eye so I'm plumping for #1...love the pose :)

Thanks to all re comments about Fast Eddie and the action shots. I decided to include a bit of blur on Eddie to emphasise movement. Also answering Parhole4's comment, Eddie is a "Glawster" dog, so does not recognise the round ball! ( rugby Union fans will understand this).
Best regards
Andrew

Those mono shots are fantaatic! I love the first the most. They do look sepia to me, but maybe that is classified as mono too? However, who cares, they're brill.

Action - 2nd shot for me where you've caught him perfectly mid-turn - he certainly seemed to be enjoying himself!

Mono - Lovely shots. I really love to see monochrome shots of subjects that have been around since the days when mono was the only option and these are perfect - could almost be old postcards

Not sure if sepia does come under the same banner as monochrome... but who cares! Both these work really well and have a lovely feel to them.

Really like the clouds in the second and the lines of the rigging with the bricks of the buildings.

Thanks for comments. I had always regarded monochrome as photos in tones of a single colour (any colour). If restricted to black and white the photos are often, but not always, termed "black and white" . Be interested to hear what others have to say

I have to agree with Elaine, the mono shots have an old postcard feel to them.

I'd have to pick the second one as the people and life ring in the first detract from the old feel.

Great processing on these Andrew, that's the effect I was after for my mono shot, I'd be interested to know how its achieved. :)

2nd one for me, liking the detail in the cloud (y), I'd have been tempted to clone the boat out on the right and what looks like a modern building just showing over the back centre to give it an even older feel :)

action ... love the first one especially.(y)

mono ... first one again, love the olde worldiness ... soft but sharp o_O
The second is a fine example of uninterrupted docks with Glos Cathedral in the background. (y)

Mono - both great shots and really evoked the feeling of looking at old photos. Agree with you that mono is about one colour. Number 1 is my fav. Just a tiny bit much vignette highlight in the corners IMHO.

Oh, yeah, this one really works for me. Cracking detail thoughout and the textures in the twig are to my liking.

Not sure if you stacked photographs but there are a few areas that look OOF.

If you could sort them out it would be a print and hang job IMO.

Cheers.

I like this one Andrew, very well and evenly lit, nice sharp detail and texture too. I agree with Andy about weather they've been stacked, just because there's a little area on the left where a bit of cloning seems to have gone a bit wrong? other than that very well done (y)

At the 800 pix size posted it looks great - has a real serpentine look and feel to it, with the twisted coils and eye and fangs in the head.

The detail is there in bucketloads on the full-res version.... but unfortunately this also really highlights the OOF / cloned areas.

At first i like it but then i see the edited bits and it really distracts from the image. Fits the theme really well though.

Like others initially I loved it but when you look at the full high-res version you can see a harsh transition from the paper the item is laid on to the blurred background created in post processing...

I wonder what the shot would have looked like without the post processing?

Hi
Thanks for all of the comments. The subject is a small piece of dead honeysuckle about an inch long and I could only get it all in focus by layer stacking. I am currently one-eyed due to a recent cataract operation so envy those of you who spotted the imperfections as I had not noticed them until first drawn to my attention by Posiview. I am encouraged to have another go and will hopefully post an improved version shortly - if that proves possible!
Regards
Andrew
